Hi All,

Working with RED to solve a problem with my Weapon. The interior boards have been destroyed and RED thinks that this is because of me using a wooden camera top plate. Therefore deeming the issue user error on my part, which is a bummer as it was not a preferred 3rd party part. So, looking more into this to see if anybody else has had this problem so I can understand better where the issue is coming from. Anyone out there experience this issue ?

Hate to say it but yes, this has been known for a bit now. It was on V1 of the top plates and WC had a free RMA process to fix with an updated board.

We've had a few issues with power in the last 2 or 3 years with our 3rd party dressed HELIUM's & now with or MONSTRO's too..I'll nudge Jeff Brown to give / share the exact details.
I think I'm right in saying only ever with the following 3rd party AKS (accessories) attached & not with just the RED BASE EXPANDER (MK 1 not the PRO)...to be clear the following issues have only happened a handful of times & not on every shoot :)

We use Action Products (APOLLO, PROTEUS & ELECTRA) & or the set up is OMOD (COMMAND RT) with a Wooden Camera (D box in V lock fitting).

We've found when trying to power PRESTON off the ACTION PRODUCTS can shut the camera down & if it was a successful powering up then it has been known to cause a shutdown during use & thus a corrupted file too. In this set up I'll always ask AC's to go D Tap / AB power instead.

We've also found when shooting on an ARM CAR their power fluctuations & 'cleanliness' is often so bad it'll cause issues too. In this case I'll always try a V lock battery on the rear of the camera or a long dedicated battery cable from a 12v floor / block battery.

We work mainly in TVC's & high end corporate films & use AKS that the great RED BASE EXPANDER's just don't have enough connections for or the other RED options are a bit too big so we have to use 3rd party products.

We literally just bought four of the TILTA ESR T01 C's to change to as we see that KESLOW & RED EUROPE now use TILTA too...hopefully this new & third investment will be a bit more stable.

Interesting to hear if other users have similar problems with third party stuff too.
