  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wooden Camera Cable-less Mounts?

Two weeks from now? So they bumped it up further? They have said "three weeks" since mid-april, bullshit. :(

I was joking because they have been saying two weeks forever. I switched my order to the element technica version (gold mount) and it is awesome. So well made, very pro

Are these shipping yet? If so, does anyone have a review? I'm waiting on my quickback upgrade to make it cable-less.

Unfortunately "STILL" not shipping, but Ryan told me they are just about to...

So for now I adopted the Cabled option so to lower the actual V-Lock Battery... And the cable is very short and once the battery is in place is really no bother...

But I think that I'll go to the XL Module for the next shoot so I'll be selling this unit/kit I just picked up this past Saturday.

Haha, well, they have said three weeks to me, so why did you get two weeks over and over instead of three like the rest of us? :tonge_smilie:

Problem with the ET mount is that I can't lower it, meaning I can't use my Red Bricks and the top handle. I just wished Red would do that design, a modular height mount instead of making it so complicated to fit everything together. :(

A question on that, do you experience any overheats? I've been wondering about the lower mount blocking the air from the camera. Yes, it's not "blocking" per say, but what I mean is that it forces the hot air compressed against the battery plate and out sideways, meaning the battery could get hot or the hot air could build up in the lower regions of the air flow. I was thinking about making a kind of "pyramid-ramp" so that air will move sideways more quickly, but I'm not sure if it's necessary or not.

I Didn't test it with and without Battery as sen, or with a "short" battery, or with the XL Module, so I could not in all honesty say this vs. that, but I can say for sure that the bottom part of the plate which is exposed to the out coming exhaust hot hair, does get very warm.

As for the camera itself overheating, no, I haven't experienced any issues at all.

But I am definitely looking to sale the plate and go for Short batteries or XL module.

You mean to say that you feel it isn't working as good as you hoped? I'm just about to pay up for it so I need some honest "reviews" on it.

Christoffer,

One thing that you can always expect form me is "UNBIAS" review of any gear, despite if I paid for it or it was given to me as part of a Collaborative Corporate Sponsorship agreement, as I don't LIE about what I use and value the Integrity I carried with me my all life, and the Trust of my fellow filmmakers... :)

What I said is that it works great,

But the bottom rear of the battery plate does get very warm, and in the long run not sure it can be any good to the Batteries themselves, also if in outdoor windy conditions and cold days, I see no issue, but if it is warm, and or indoor with poor ventilation, then I see a possible bigger issue, and for this I would suggest to go with short batteries, or keep them above the roof of the rear ventilation system so to allow plenty of free flow for the exhaust to do his job properly without been obstructed by anything.

I wanted to tested, and I did, now I will move to the XL Module and XL Batteries as "Blueshape" my corporate Sponsors for batteries, hasn't yet released their really GREAT Short batteries in V-Lock and Gold Mount, so for the next few months I'll go the XL way.

If you are asking about the actual Weapon... The no issues at all, even with the slower bottom plate getting really warm do to blocking the away out of the exhaust, again the concern here is about the battery itself not getting damaged because exposed to heat.

And just to be clear,

This issue is only there when trying to use the Wooden Camera Battery plate in "LOW MODE" as I did in the set up shown in picture, but if you swap the small piece form bottom to top then you can mount the Battery Plate Flash to the Bottom, so that the Battery plate and Battery sticks out from the top just like it does with any other set up and no more heating issues on bottom back of Battery plate... :)

Good news. Got an email today saying they needed to confirm my address to ship my plate out. So hopefully next week I should get the plate.

When did you order?

I ordered minutes after the email went out when they first opened up ordering. So I know I am towards the front of the line.

When was that? What date? :)
I ordered in mid-april so knowing your date might make me figure out when to expect mine.

Email was sent out mid-day Feb 24th and I ordered within a few minutes of getting the email. Sucks trying to be patient but with red I've learned some.

I had a mail about six weeks ago where I was told that the plate would ship in, wait for it... two or three weeks. :furious3: (Yeah about the fourth time I've heard that, maybe Wooden Camera and fStop Gear should build something together with ViewFactor that is entirely built of unobtainium) I ordered the first week of March. In the last email I got Ryan told me that I was toward the "front of the line."

Mine arrived today... Looks great, reads RED Brick battery data...

The package has been sitting in town since Saturday but FedEx wasn't going to deliver until Wednesday since it was Saver (no one wants to go above and beyond in service these days-even when it will cost you zero extra effort) but was able to get it today. It installed easy (ordered upgrade kit since I already had the backplate) and works perfectly. Passes the battery info perfectly and is really nice in low mode. Was able to shave a ton of stuff off the camera and it's nice and compact now.
