  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

With the release of Gone Girl on Blu-ray on Tuesday, will there be a .....

The digital copies for 1080p is a joke, bit rate wise, so I would love a legit 4K file, but I sadly don't see it happening. (Not to mention DRM up the arse)

I do wish the movie industry would learn like the music industry did (320Kbps HQ, DRM free), but that's another discussion, lol.

How is the 1080p Blu Ray a joke? Or do you mean the copy you can download with the access number in the Blu ray? If you want a Blu Ray quality digital copy it's trivial to rip it from the Blu Ray itself. There will be a 4K Blu Ray in 2016, I guess.

I hoep they don't learn anything from the music industry. Recorded music sales are a tiny shadow of what they once were, and I like to pay my rent off my work.

Oh noes, BD remuxes are illegal! If you ripping your own Blu-Ray disc for personal use you're still a Pirate, Captain Jack the Ripper. Arrg, arrg. </sarcasm>

Of course I meant the digital 1080p files that are legally downloaded. Although it was a 2.5GB file, thus a quarter of the bitrate (and quality) of something that Captain Jack would provide for free, and DRM free to boot (and they wonder why he owns the high seas). Now, this was a few years ago, so perhaps they changed some things. It just left a bad taste in my mouth to try again.

And my position about the music industry was on the consumer side. Who doesn't wish to have at least 10Mbps h.264 / h.265 files, DRM free? I would gladly pay for that so I can put it on my media center, which isn't connected to the internet to "verify" files.

So as of now, I buy Blu-Rays, but I would love to buy a HQ digital version with the above perks.

I would buy Gone Girl, 4K in a heartbeat.

I would also like a 4K copy... But only if it has equivalent or better audio as the BD distribution and the quality of the pixels better be equal or better. Thus far, 4K distribution on the Sony Network 4K player pretty much falls in line with digital copy and HD distribution elsewhere. Which translates to inferior audio vs. Blu-Ray and the 1080p digital copy / download / streaming versions usually have inferior image quality vs 1080p on Blu-Ray as well.
