Hello,

I am wondering if a wireless remote for varispeed ramping exists? I need something that will allow me to initiate the ramp wirelessly.

We will be shooting on a steadicam, and such an accessory would be very useful in our situation.

Thanks for your help in advance!

David

Hi David,

Just wanted to ask why you are ramping in camera and not in post? Seems like with a potential iris pull during the ramp, plus the need for exact timing, you would be better off in post anyway.

Just wanted to know what the current thinking is.

Cheers,

Jim

I think you could wire up a cable to make the roll stop switch on a bartech or similar device to trigger a ramp from one of the hirose ports on the camera. I would call Cramped Attic and ask them if they can help.

Thanks Jim, that's what I usually see being done in productions. I don't have the answer to your question because I am not the DP, but I can see advantages to both ways.

Also keep in mind that with the Red, when doing a ramp if you have variable shutter on it will adjust the shutter speed to correct for exposure, not necessarily negating iris pull, and limited for sure, but can be helpful.

I've set this up before using an old wireless flash trigger. Can't remember the model, it was quite ancient... I made a cable up to plug into it, connecting it to the lemo connector on the camera, obviously doing my research with a multimeter first to make sure what I was doing! All you need is something to common the appropriate pins together as described in the operations manual.

I have a similar (wired) connector hooked up on our camera most of the time, can be a very useful thing to have the ability to make use of the camera's gpio functionality :)
