  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wireless hd module

http://boxx.tv/

Coming soon :
Key features:
• Extremely high quality uncompressed video
• Zero frame latency (1 millisecond)
• 5GHz licence exempt band
• Secure encrypted transmission
• Transmit to unlimited receivers
• View multiple cameras from one receiver
• Automatic channel select (seeks and locks onto cleanest frequency)
Saw it at IBC, looked great.

Not sure about TC, but 2 audio channels are being transmitted.

two questions re. the boxx system....

1. how much is it?

2. what is the range?

okay, 3. does it take ALL HD formats, including 1080p24??

Just curious, as this unit is interesting.

I love Mark's idea though. A module. Needs more range than the CamWave though.

Boxx is a microwave system - should have an eval unit sooner than later - $10K+ I believe -

What about Red making a Wireless RAW all they way up to 28K Resolution! :shifty:

:alien: This thread got me thinking - I wonder how long it will be till you don't record to physical media on camera - you just beam it directly through the ether to your edit suite (no more rushes runner )

Hi Lewis,

If you are referring to the Transvideo Titan,
TitanPack_m.jpg

this system is not HD but SD. You will need a downconverter if you want to use it on the RED.
Any sender can work on the RED if you have the good tool to downconvert the signal before sending it.

Cheers.

The Titan is ok but but it transmits only composite SD, so you need to add $1000 for a downconverter (HDSDI to Composite PAL / NTSC).

From what I remember, there will be a few different versions of the Boxx meridian system, some for monitoring (Range around 60m), some for broadcast (bigger receiver, bigger range around 150m).
I'm not 100% sure, but I remember hearing a starting price around $5000. I may be wrong though...

Mark, please let us know when you get to try it...
I really like their SD system (only issue is the 1/2 second delay, which will be gone on the new HD systems).

The new HD Cam-Wave system works great. Reports of a rolling image when shooting at 25fps were because the monitor out setting on the camera was set to 60i instead of 50i. The Cam-Wave is available now and we have successfully used it on many jobs, including numerous RED jobs. Available for sale or rent from Abel.

Well, the transvideo's Titan was suck, it's even poor then what I bought from the local video transmitter, cost less then 100 bucks.

I guess it's that one :

Price is reasonable, only thing is that it looks a bit bulky and heavy (1,5 pounds). Don't they make a lighter version without the battery plates ? Well, I guess this wouldn't remove much weight anyway...

That's the unit. There is an identical-looking receiver unit in the kit (price includes the pair) and they are available in V-lock or Anton Bauer mounts. It is a bit larger than the SD systems out there, but the weight really is pretty nothing -- it's a circuit board in a beefed-up plastic shell. The plates make for nice mounting points, even if you don't use them for power (there's an XLR4 jack on the side for this as well). The image quality is great -- we recently had one client use one to feed to a deck for final recording (not on a RED of course). They are ridiculously simple to use, send a solid signal for 150' and you can add additional receivers if you wantor use multiple transmitter/receiver pairs with signal lockouts to prevent interference.

This is a really great bit of kit and don't just take it from me. John Chater of Chater Camera posted about this here on REDuser before I did. Of course he did buy it from us but he's a long-time Abel client. Chater does a lot of RED business so I'm sure that their Cam-Waves have been used on RED Ones plenty of times.

Anyone have any further news on the Boxx Meridian system? We're on the verge of ponying up for a CamWave - but the Boxx looks like the way to go.

Shot Boxx an email but no dice.

Mark? Bueller? Anyone?

Mark... RED HD WIRELESS!!!! Major Suggestion!!!!
Make it Cooler than the Modulus,(not stylish by cool I mean without velcro melting chassis heat) smaller
than a cell phone. Not microwave as they are too much line of sight so don't work well in walled sets or locations. clip onto special dummy side mount of the brain....
