  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wireless Focus For RED

Some interesting new features...

Inclino:
1. The motors are now thinner (0.75"/19mm). I believe these are the thinnest on the market.
2. We have designed a torque multiplier assembly that bolts onto the motor to increase torque by 3X (it slows down by 3X as well) without making the motor any wider.
This will allow you to move even the toughest lenses but still have the smaller form factor for everything else.
3. The motor will now be both 12-bit and 10-bit compatible. This took some work but we wanted to make it work with Preston/C-motion controllers.
4. The motors have an intelligent motor ID system that allows it to communicate to the receiver and display temperature, hours used, and resolution settings.
(this feature may not be in the initial FW release but the hardware is in place)

Impero:
1. The receiver has a removable I/O module that can be upgraded later. We will be offering a metadata module that will have time code input, SD card, and two audio output
channels which will digitally encode metadata onto the audio tracks of any camera. We will have a iphone app that will allow you to plug all sorts of information onto the
tracks and have it follow your footage through post. (Not in the prelim. FW release)
2. The receiver now has two different driver modules, one for focus motors and one for larger motors (moco rig applications). The driver boards are easily upgradeable.
3. The controller now has an upgradeable focus knob. The shipping units will have the economy version but we will offer a smart knob down the road. Details on that later.
4. The wireless radios on both the controller and receiver are now upgradeable. The current design uses a long range vf-comm module that has significant range and
connection reliability improvements over the competition.
5. There will be an accompanying iPhone app to configure and download lens information to the receiver/controller. The lens database can reside on the iPhone, Impero
Receiver, or on the web-based system we will have available in the next few months.

Curran: that's sounds great on paper, but so far that's where the VF system resides. I met with the whole family last March, in person, at their shop. They promised that it would be ready in time for Cinegear in June (2012). Cinegear came and went - no FF. Summer came and went - no FF. After waiting 3 years, I finally asked for a refund. Its been almost four months now, and no refund. Sent an email about a month ago, inquiring as to when I might expect a refund - not a peep in response.

As far as I can see, not a thing has changed. Pie-in-the-sky specs and promises of something soon, followed by nada.
