  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wireless Focus For RED

I'd ordered the Mark III too, will be get it end of this month, I believe this the most completive wireless focus control,
and the design is amazing too...

If your going to make something amazing and budget friendly at the same time, this will be your competitor:
rtmotion.com The new MK3 version is coming soon.

Any word on the VF wireless systems? Anyone use the Redrock? They are all sold out.

RT system looks nice as well.

I ordered the RedRock... only supports one motor per base-station and only on 15mm, both of which are poor design decisions on their part IMO, but the future iPhone integration with their sonar rangefinder looks pretty amazing, the thumbwheel is a nice add for solo setups, and the price is right. I will post feedback when my unit arrives.

VF seems well-intentioned, but they really screwed up by taking money and then being totally wrong about dev timelines, and inconsistent with communication. They lost a lot of people's trust, though I hope they redeem themselves someday by finally delivering a solid system. After so many missed deadlines, skepticism is definitely called for.

RTMotion looks solid, and has some favorable buzz from other posts I've seen. If I needed more than one motor, they would be my pick.

Did this product ever get released?

Sorry, Couldn't Resist...

I can't say much, but Curt (view factor) and team are working very hard to have their new system soon. There have been a lot of changes and this is going to be something that will make preston and c-motion look like a kids toy. GUARANTEEEE...

Mark 3 for less than 5000 dollars!!! Anyone have experience with these remote FF?

It's hard to put into words how absurd this comment is. No real professional will be caught dead with a viewfactor wireless ff on a set, no matter how many features it has. Preston and Bartechs are the workhorses of the industry not because of their features, but because they're bulletproof, and just work. Cmotion and Arri are great too, but can't speak to their reliability.

For viewfactor to ever be accepted, those systems have to work flawlessly for many years, probably up to 10. And because of the reputation they've earned with the way they've treated their follow focus customers (hint: not good), it'll take 20 years for anyone to take them seriously.

And also, the two quotes for Cmotion systems on this thread, one for $100K, and the other for $84K, are absolutely wrong. A 3 motor Cmotion system is in the high $30K range, which is slightly more than preston.

I hope no one makes any buying decisions based on info from this thread. If you're on a budget, buy Bartech. If not, buy a Preston. Cmotion and Arri aren't well known enough yet for AC's to comfortably use them, though they're getting there. It would be foolish to gamble with a new system given the importance of on set lens control.

Got my RT Motion Mk 3 FIZ a couple of weeks ago and I could not be happier. I gave up on Viewfactor and Redrock due to years (yes, years) of delays. The RT Motion Mark 3 is powerful, small, well built, reliable and just makes me smile because it just works.

Robert, I don't have any RPP's, but I don't see why not. The motors have enough torque that there is a safety warning in the manual of possible injury. I used my fingers on the gear with the motor powered, and I can see why the warning is there. It is quite robust. The neat thing is that the Mk. 3 auto calibrates when initially powered, so the focus knob on the controller gives 360 degrees of rotation to any lens, be it a cine style lens with 320 degrees of rotation for focus, or a still lens with only 70 degrees of focus barrel rotation. Zoom and iris also auto calibrate. Hope this helps.

I'm 40th on the list for the Mk 3. Wish these smaller companies could crank them out quicker.

OptiTek OptiTRon/ProLock-i Canon EF kit

While we are at it let me introduce another entry in the focus controllers.
The OptiTron by OptiTek
We eliminated the need for external motors while using AF canon, and in the future Nikon lenses.
We utilize the internal lens motors instead.
1 cable to plug in for everything- power and focus/iris control.
focus travel extension, custom in/out points for even more precision, direction change, auto calibration so the focus marks stay true for ever.
wireless receiver coming soon, transmitter already included in the OptiTron.
We also mechanicaly turn Canon EF mount into PL style mounting with the ProLock-i mount design.
Backlit marking ring
Adjustable drag on the focus knob -who else has that?!!!
There is more....
