Yay! My first feature length project on the RED (as DP)! We just wrapped our first week. There have been ups and downs this past week (like always) from free publicity with a story about our production on the News (Channel 4 Iowa) to the directors car breaking down. Regardless, it has been a pleasure working with the cast and crew out here and a HUGE pleasure working with the RED.

I have posted some more larger resolution 1K grabs on my blog: lightplusmotion.com

Composition is beautiful, the images are too sharp for my tastes. Lighting is good as well.

Can you tell us what lenses were used? Filters?

Thanks Jim,

I am only using a Red 18-50 (Not enjoying it, but it gets the job done and it fits the bill) I havent used any filters so far... I have been gelling lights like crazy though.

I am mixing practicals, small HMI's (arrisun 5 and 12), Tungsten's, and floresents and using combinations of B. amber, light Cto/b's, chocolate, aqua, and a few party colors. Also I am using tuff frost on almost every light.

Thanks for checking it out.

Hunter. You are doing everything right. Nothing looks obvious. The look you have going is what I look for when I interview candidates for ASC Membership. Rather than reply to your email I would rather publicly post kudos for your work. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it. You have a great eye. Great stuff.

what are the requirements to be a ASC? other than having ability to compose great shots?

Sounds like a great, brand new thread to put in the cinematography section. Seriously...

Nice shots Hunter... congratulations.

Hello sky1walker. I will respond to your post via a private email. I don't know if this is the correct venue for an explanation. I wanted to let Hunter know that I loved his work and I appreciate his style. I am also thrilled when I see great work done with the Red Camera, or any camera.

Can you be more specific about the Red 18-50? Likes, dislikes?

Thanks
Pete

The Red 18-50 is great for the price and makes a nice image, its just that the mechanics and tight focus scale from 3' to inf. make it difficult to use if your doing any kind of camera movement & pulling focus, there are also a few millimeters of play in the focus barrel. The good things though are that its very lightweight, compact and cheap. It is a great lens to have in the kit.
