I'm patiently waiting for that CS4 plugin like so many others, but in the meantime I am trying to figure out the basic workflow to edit footage shot with Red inside Adobe CS3. Yes, it's a very basic question, but it's taking way too long to find the answer by surfing through posts only to discover they are talking about Macs and FCP.

I did cross by a post that said they edit their proxies in Premier and then coordinate the In and Out points of each clip in RedCine, then export however. Is this the typical workflow when using Adobe CS3?

Also, is RedAlert compatible with windows? Please point me in the right direction to start editing. Sorry for the stupid questions... Thanks for your help.

a year will be up on dec 31 here ( since Red arrived at door) .. i have not found a PC solution... editing on PC ( any program) is no problem .. the problem ( or should that be time consuming thing ) is getting the R3D clips converted into something you can use on your PC ... i do not have a solution .. do have a work around ( very time consuming ) ...

fastest conversion i've seen ... use a 8 core mac .. convert to 2k proRes ..then take the ProRes clips into your PC ... using Vegas to edit ... ( get the PC proRes codec from apple site -comes in newest QT )

did buy CS3 when Red posted it would be available last ?? .. did buy upgrade to CS4 .. waiting !!!
if there is nothing by Dec 31, 2008 ? i'll rethink it all ..might have to go to the mac side ..or ????

i believe the post you've seen on editing proxies in Premiere are from beta testers ...
there is no RED Alert for PC ...

Premiere users can use Cineform on PC or a Mac.

you could get by with neo 4k at $999 till the RED premiere plug in is available ...or
the cineform neo 4k trial is good for 15 days ... not sure if you can do a 15 day trial of 4k neo and then 15 day trial of 4k prospect = 30 days ....

yeah, i think that's my best option at the moment. If the people at Red need a beta tester for the new adobe plugin, I'll be HAPPY TO VOLUNTEER! seriously:shifty:

thanks for the tips

I am having some of the same problems. Thanks for the tips! I didnt even need to ask any questions, this whole thread was perfect!

Doesn't FCP have to run under OS X?

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. Heck, I'd like to have the cineform plugin, but $2k is a bit over my head for a plugin. No offense, if you can get that price, I say go for it. But, it's just a tad too much for me. Perhaps someday!

just for all the newbies out there... I learned you can export mov files out of REDCINE. It takes a heck of a long time, but it is an option. It's too bad you have to dig for hours to find simple solutions for problems most people face.
