We just "upgraded" to Windows 7 64 pro on four machines connected to a SAN. Copying files through Windows Explorer is like watching paint dry. Anyone else getting this problem? Solutions?

I get 400-600 MBps when copying from a RAID 6 to a RAID 5.

Gotta love that deep Q&A over at MSOFT. Because you know Firewire drives are really esoteric in today's media environment. How'd that one slip by... :thumbup:

Sounds like you guys have some network issues with the SAN?
I will tell you from first hand experience, all of my systems have been converted to Windows 7. I am not just saying it to say because I am affiliated with Microsoft. I can truly stand behind this product and tell you straight away it works very reliably, fast and extremely stable. The 64bit version is a real powerhouse as well.
Anyways, what to say about Windows 7?
There are several new features that are available with Windows 7 that will assist you with deployment and management of a large number of workstations. Enterprise IT infrastructures are increasingly complex to manage. The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) is a dynamic desktop solution that is available as a subscription for Software Assurance customers. The solution suite enhances application deployment and compatibility, increases IT responsiveness and end user uptime, and helps reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) of your desktop software and IT management. I had all kinds of issues with Windows 7 installed in a couple older PC's (mostly used for office work) and went back to Windows XP. Then I installed Windows 7 64bit Pro on a separate drive in my spare MacPro and it works perfectly. We use it for audio editing. Video is done on a second and newer MacPro.

I've been testing very demanding beta software (guess what) on a Xeon MacPro (non Nehalem) under W7 64 bit and under OS X 10.6. As someone who learned to hate Windows (Vista in particular) I must respectfully admit that Microsoft did it right this time. W7 is stable and fast. I could not see any throughput bottlenecks on our RAIDs.
