  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A few days ago I saw a recent interview with Ted Schilowitz, and I believe he mentioned the s35 Scarlet will be windowed when shooting at high framerates. Can anyone confirm this is the case?

I'd find it hard to believe the s35 Scarlet would be limited to 72fps if it's windowed... since the 2/3 will shoot at 120fps.

Unless... maybe it has less processing power than the 2/3?

epics will do high framerates using the full sensor, Scarlets(the s35 and ff35) models will do full res @ 30fps, and when you need high frame rates, you go down on resolution. That is why the 2/3" Scarlets are such a good deal - they have a much lower resolution than the s35 and ff35 models, but they do 120fps at that max resolution.

I thought the same thing, but remember the S35 is a 5K sensor, to acheive the same 120fps, you need an extremely more powerful processor, which would generate an excesseve more amounts of heat.. This can be solved with more money to build that processor and cooling techonlogy to lessen the heat, and the result of that is in the form of an Epic brain.

but don't forget the specs do say 72fps burts at 5K, which is not too shabby.

Not too shabby? It's AMAZING!

I think I understand now - it uses a cropped portion of the sensor for sustained high frames per second, but it can use the whole sensor for burst mode.

I still don't see how it can only achieve 72fps at 2k on a windowed sensor though, unless it has less processing power than the 2/3 scarlet. I mean, it seems to be effectively the same thing if you're only using 2/3 of the sensor to shoot windowed 2k on the s35mm.

I think I better just wait until the 30th. =P
