  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will Tamron 24-70mm work with Red? Other options?

Anyone know if the new Tamron is 1...a decent lens and 2 able to work with the current build. I really would love to know if it is sharper the the Canon 24-70 version 1. I specifically have not bought the canon because I know it's a soft lens. Not really another good option for a zoom that mm that's under $3000 that I know of. I currently use the Canon 16-35L and 70-200mm II. Both are great but not sold on the 24-70 and the new version of that lens is looking more and more like it's not worth it for 2300 and no IS.

I am considering 2 options. 1... Get a zeiss ze 50mm to fill in the gap between the 16-35 and the 70-200 and 2....look more closely at the Tamron. Even if it was sharp as a tack...would it even work with the Scarlet?

Hmmmm.... Lens advise is welcome.

Mike - regardless of what is said here, I would urge you to contact RED support specifically about the lens(es) you are wondering about. I wish I had...

Thanks for the response Stu. I did find out that the Zeiss is good to go. I actually did decide to go that way. I figure I would always enjoy a good piece of Zeiss glass. I will contact RED about the Tamron's compatibility. I imagine that it will not work yet and I have not seen any field tests. I keep hoping the Canon's delay of the new 24-70mm is an undercover operation to remove the trombone element and include IS. Probably dreaming but it would be nice. They are charging enough for it.

The 24-70 decision is one that I will hold off until technology catches up to what is needed. Its what Canon should have made...but didn't.

No prob Mike. I will likely get the original Canon 24-70 myself. Doesn't look like IS is coming for the II lens - even at the price! ouch.
