  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will Scarlet record audio?

I asked Graeme this morning and he said "I can't give specifics but Yes Scarlet will have audio.

I would love the option of 2ch of audio (line level or mic level) on xlr OR digital.

Seperate sound is great. But it's a pain in the ass in the middle of a rain storm in India or on the back of a horse. No joke.

I'd accept mini xlr's to keep the scale down.

Digital in would be nice - but that means an external converter (or mixer with digital outs ((Sony)) ) and more crap to carry with you.

I think the point of the Scarlet is awesome quality on the go, less stuff to slow you down.

If you have a sound recordist, you probably have a crew and a RedOne too.

I see other problems with metering and monitoring that suggest an external box may have to be added as an accessory.

Sad but true that all the cool small cams have sucky audio - Red has a chance to get this one right. Fingers crossed.

Remeber - sound is vital - all the pretty pictures in the world won't get an interview with crap sound on air.

Oh - and if you think I'm just ranting, I'm the guy doing sound off the back of a horse in the old Kata catalogs. And more than once I've shot a whole days worth from horse back hand held. It ain't pretty - that's what I want a scarlet for.

Since I don't see any mic inputs, I'm going to assume that RED will sell an optional audio acquisition accessory. If that's the case, then it would be nice if it where as compact as possible, perhaps with two XLR inputs in a nice square box a-la Beachtek adapters that can be screwed on to the top or bottom of Scarlet.
