  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will Red Rocket speed up AE Warp Stabilizer?

I do a lot of aerial work using remote controlled systems. Although the systems are getting quite good, they almost always need a bit of touch up in post for small turbulences. I've been flying the RED Epic and shooting in 5K, and then using After Effects' Warp-Stabilizer to smooth out the shots. From analysing the clips, to exporting them back out at 4K HD, the process is very time consuming. I am just wondering if RED's RED Rocket will have any effect on the Warp Stabilizer processing, as well as the exporting.

Cheers.

Hi Chuck, I don't know if the rocket will speed things up, however, I do heaps of warp stabilizer in AE and the best advice I can offer you is to drag ALL the clips that need stabilizing and apply the warp stabilizer to ALL of them at once before you go to bed! It will also help if you trim the clips before you stabilize in the comp window, if you don't the warp stabilizer will analyse the whole clip, not just the section in the comp. It's the analysing that takes the time. Depending on the volume, you'll wake up the next morning and it's all done. I've applied the warp stabilizer to 30-40 layers (clips) at once.

Thanks Mark, I've been trimming my shots to only what is essential as you've suggested. I had no idea that you could stabilize 30-40 clips at once. I've been limiting it to about 4 at one time, but this is good to know.

Cheers.

Rocket speeds up R3D frame decoding in After Effects, so if you're pulling full-res, full-quality R3D frames into your comps, it should help give a boost. Then again, on much faster multi-core systems like 12 and 16 core Xeons, the CPUs keep pace with the Rocket, or even exceed it, depending on the application and task at hand. With Warp Stabilizer, the bulk of the processing is in the actual stabilizing, so decoding each R3D frame is not the bottleneck on faster workstations.
