  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will PROXIES alone send the R3D to Color??

Trying to get a DEFINITIVE answer on whether an FCP sequence edited with PROXIES will directly send the R3D media to Color with just a simple "send to color" operation.
Some people say yes, while others say I either need to make my own wrappers with log and transfer first, or edit with PROXIES but first XML the PROXIE sequence out to conform with Clipfinder in order to get the R3D into Color.

Has anyone simply been editing with PROXIES and sending directly to Color to correct the R3D??

I've found that sending the PROXIES to Color directly DOES give you the RED Tab in Color.

Thanks!!

It will work in quite a few instances, but not for all.
Particularily you risk looping bug errors if you have spanned takes (takes bigger than 2 gb) and rendering issues.

The xml workflow is much more secure. And quick, too...

Is this process still risky? Or has it improved in this time with the last upgrades available?

Thanks!

Ok, it's good to know... But I believe it can be fixed with clipfinder for what I've read, I guess it's the only way to go.
Thanks Gunleik!

The xml workflow is much more secure.

Not trying to step on any toes (Especially Gunleik, since he's one of the most knowledgeable people around here) but I don't see how, if you're editing proxies, sending the XML out to clipfinder is going to make any difference in stability. IIRC, all clipfinder does is connect to the proxies. Thus you're basically reconnecting the proxies to themselves...

Now, mind you, there's a whole raft of potential issues involved in *editing* with the proxies. But you shouldn't have to bounce to clipfinder to get it to Color. Just make sure to run the looping bug fix once you get there.

If you cut with proxies in FCP, then Send to Color, you will be grading off of the R3D. If you have spanned clips (any shots bigger than 2GB) you will probably run into the looping bug, but you will no matter what workflow you use to get there. Just save a backup of your Color project, then use clipfinder or colorfixer on the Color project file, and you'll be good to go.
