  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will not shoot anything until I have A Scarlet

That's a terrible idea. Keep shooting. You can't know how long you'll be waiting and what you learn from shooting now will make your future Scarlet shoots even better.

1+

Rent a R1 start buying S accessories and focus on technique workflow and vision....

Never know what tomorrow will bring.

No way! I'll be happy to take his clients while he sits around reading reduser. :D

Looks like you won't be shooting music video's anymore ; )

I keed, I keed.. Ok now release Scarlet.

Where on Maui are you. I have relatives near Kahului. I love it there!

Question: which accesories should I start looking to purchase for Scarlet?

Where can i see some of your short films or features?
A Cardinal at my bird feeder is getting a lot of hits, as per the features, there's one, but it's a bad script. I shot a labour day parade yesterday which I would put up against any music video.

Not shooting anything.

Well, lucky you didn't start 3 years ago ;) . I would not say that at this stage you might be in for a bit of a wait. The scarlet has been delayed and number of models reduced. They said a small problem but are not talking about it even though it was to be released this month after the delays. Now Jim hints at big changes just as things should be conning out, and in the history thread I didn't see scarlet mentioned by name. I think it is possible that scarlet will see an upgrade and probably delay. It might even have a change name so you will never get a scarlet and have to give up filming. To illustrate why read the following.

I suggest that you prepare to buy a Song VG20 or Panasonic gh3 for now. Sure they stuffed up by limiting h264 to 28MB/s instead of 36 - 56Mb/s, and not offering 3D or 2160p at even higher data rates (gh2 has been made to hit over 100 mb/s), but the other quality of images ars immense and you get a nice fat formats with cheap lens and good depth of field. The low light is also beautiful for such low end cameras (though you would need the vitality hack for the gh2). You can even use 2/3rd lens on them, particularly with suitable optical relay adaptor. When you realise that both present cameras could have been easily made with close to 4k, and next year's models might be, you realise why.

That Sony looks pretty hit, even I'm tempted to buy one.

In another thread we have been discussing design and business strategies, and one strategy I would have used is too hit them unexpectedly low and hard in a crippling way they would not do themselves unless they had any sense, rather then let them get around to it eventually. Do what others want to be interested in and own, 2160p/4k, at a price that sucks the life out of their markets, years before they can get around to it at your price, and with professionally acceptable quality etc. The market being the mass professional and enthusiast markets rather than only cinema market, what scarlet was originally designed for.

It us ridiculous, we need to ask the question, is it worth waiting now if we gave upcoming work, or should we use something else.

OK, here is the question, hopefully Red can find it in their hearts to advise us.

If you can't make a good music video with the budget cameras out there right now.... chances are you wont be able to make a good music video with even an Alexa/Epic.

There are just no excuses not to be out filming and bettering yourself.... if you don't already have a camera buy a GH2 / NEX 5N for peanuts and sell it when Scarlet ships (or keep it as an large sensor B-cam).

Learning how to shoot well with a 9/10 stop DR, poor codec, etc etc camera will only benefit you when you get your Scarlet.
