Does anyone have experience using and Optimo 17-80 on the EPIC-X at 5kFF? I am looking to pull off a shot on a Jimmy Jib, looking straight down with the EPIC at 5k shooting 36fps. The shot will start out at approximately 35mm, and doing the course of the boom up, zoom to 17mm. I'm looking for the lightest, zoom that will get me out to 17mm and hold focus throughout the zoom range. I was told that the Optimo may vignette up to 25mm. Is there a solution, or do I need to shoot 4k?
The Rouge series would be lighter, but is there any optical difference in coverage? Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the weight of each of these lenses but this will get you an idea of what will work without vignette. These are on a lens coverage chart provided by Camtec.

Optimo 15-40 no vignette at 5K FF
Rouge 16-42 slight vignette to 16.5 (unless it's second generation, then no vignette)
Optimo 17-80 vignette to 35
Arri Alura Fujinon 18-80 slight vignette at 18
Century Compact Zoom 17-35 no vignette at 5K FF
Vantage 17-35 no vignette at 5K FF

If your shot would alow it, the Focus Optics Ruby 14-24 also fully clears 5K.

Hey Mitch,

Any word on when this wide angle beauty will fit in an Epic and a Scarlet ... and a Sony F3 for that matter?

Craig beat me to it. The 16-35 would be perfect for your purposes.

Just an update. I ended up using the Optimo 15-40 from Abel and it worked beautifully in 5KFF.
Makes me more disappointed that my RED 17-50 vignettes so bad!

Is that the new RPZ 17-50? According to Jarred's previous post, the vignetting became better in V2.

I am looking to purchase this type of zoom lens. Anyone have a current version that can comment on image quality etc and vignette issues when used with Epic? What are the good choices for a high quality, compact, wide zoom?

The Canon 10-22 EFS lens also surprisingly nearly covers 5kFF...it just slightly vignettes at 10mm (slight darkening in corners) but at 12mm its clear and is significantly wider than the 16-35...just not the range you need.
