  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wide angle for Scarlet

Nevertheless, on both Epic and Scarlet, 5K is APS-H, not APS-C.

Terry - the devil is in the details. If you re-read our posts - we are talking shooting motion on the Scarlet, not Epic. This is also clearly stated in the thread title.
As such that means 5K cropped out of the 6K Dragon Scarlet and respectively 4K cropped out of the 5K MX Scarlet - both of these fit in APS-C, which means that EFs and similar lenses designed for APS-C sensors will work fine on the Scarlet for motion shooting (24P and up)...

Jason how did you achieve your aspect ratio? Is this 2x @3.55:1 = (3840x2160) (7668x2160)?

@Lassiter - Sony Music didn't want anything near native 4K width, just wanted 16x9 delivery with a letterbox so I actually squeezed the vertical by half in Avid. In camera, obviously, it was the native anamorphic squeeze, which was shot in 4K HD, to keep the math simple in post, so I lost a touch of the full frame, which is okay anyway with Lomos at the edges. And for the non-anamorphic shots, obviously I just used a letterbox but I had to do a slight squeeze on it to get more of the vertical, kind of a cheat but with the LA shot, nobody noticed.

Unfortunately, Avid still won't let you work in a 4K environment... you can punch into 4K footage but it's capped at 1080p output... best you can do it keep it squeezed and then force a simulated 3840x1080 output, but it's not native.

Ah, yes, Peter... details. You see, I was asking Matthew the question as to whether the 16mm actually covered the full 5K. I wasn't differentiating between Scarlet and Epic because they both can shoot 5K - even if lower frame rate on Scarlet. So, you will have to forgive me for interrupting your thread with a legitimate question. Oh, wait... it wasn't your thread. Sorry if I wasn't fixated on your mastering of the details of the conversation or not.

The fact stands, the Scarlet and Epic sensors are APS-H. So, the question remains, does the 16mm cover the full 5K?
