  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WI-FI request for the RED Team

That have to be a seriously fast network to transfer files of that size. :scared:

802.11n has a theoretical max speed of 30MBs that's almost the same as USB2.0's 45MBs theoretical speed. Not too shabby.

Well how long does it take to dig out 16GBytes from the cam through CF?

And L.A area freeways have a theoretical speed limit of 65 m.p.h ...

However you can only drive as fast as the guy in front of you :-)

I get pretty close in the same room. Maybe 60mph.

Mostly I was just hoping for WIFI to offload stills which would be more than fast enough. Or if there was a system in the ASIC to generate a still so that a DP could pull a frame from the last shot and do a quick grade in REDCine without pulling the CF Card.

Indeed. Especially if REDCine has a direct connection where a file wasn't even created.

Could you imagine a TCP/IP 'live tap' to multiple cameras.

The DP sits on a workstation in video village and "requests" a live frame or a 'story board' of thumbnails from a previous shot. Then the camera finds that frame from the storyboard, or takes a new still if you request a live shot and generates an r3d and sends it to a REDCine User folder.

It would be like a video tap you can work with inside of photoshop or REDCine. Completely wirelessly.

This would be incredible for VFX artists as well.

We just pull down a frame on our workstation. Drop the new frame into the comp and could show a slap comp from inside of Nuke with an up to date frame. We can then dig into the channels and let the DP know if we're getting a bit too much noise in the blue channel etc.

Make up could pull down a still frame onto a laptop and zoom way in to check up.

There are lots and lots and lots of applications which don't require video but from which even a single frame would be helpful. But not if we have to pull a CF Card and share around entire multi-GB shots.
