  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What's the possibility of you guys making a WI-FI component that will send triggers to multi-scarlet/EPIC cam setups so that each clip would be synced up during the recording process.

That way, say...I shot with 2 Scarlets at a wedding and I wanted to start recording, the other would be told via WI-FI that it should start recording at the same time as well.

Now THAT would be a pretty rockin' feature. :drool5:

EDIT: Maybe the REDmote will have the capability to reach long distances? I guess I never really thought of the REDmote reaching all that far.

Wouldn't the REDmote be used for this? One can control up to 5 cameras, as of the current information.

I think the only thing the REDmote can't do is show video on the screen and emit a light saber blade so you can slice open a tauntaun and sleep comfortably through the cold Hoth night.

Although I could be wrong about that.

It's been suggested the REDMote will use bluetooth - so about as far as that...

How far did you have in mind ?

to add too that. (seriously it would be awesome if they did this) wifi connect via phone, application based, iphone, itouch, g1, g2 whatever. load up and app that has control over the whole camera. Scarlet or Epic on top of a huge techno crane and it's a pain to bring it down to change your settings everytime you want to shoot slow mo and go back and forth? no problem. bam, iphone, connect, change all the settings u want, even press record remotely.

THAT would seriously be killer

Would a laser beam be sufficient?

WiFi-based protocols have too much latency for this purpose - particularly because packets have to be re-transmitted n-number of times due to all kinds of interference, shadowing, etc. You're better off with a cable.

Wireless

Wireless

There are a number of techiques that can be used to avoid latency. A hard wire is obviously on that list :-)

I'm thinking it's more of an unofficial confirmation of a tether for the REDmote, when the whole quote is taken into context.

Well, the implication is that red has developed methods to ensure latency-free wifi in their new cams, is it not?

EDIT: Also, judging by Mr. English's outright admission of certain features' exclusion in the Redmote system (i.e. wireless video) and his relative silence on this one, I'm inclined to think we'll be using wifi.

You wouldn't use WiFi to genlock - that's what my point was. I guess there's no reason why WiFi couldn't be used to issue start/stop/pause/etc commands.

Wi Fi Download

Wi Fi Download

Stuart,

What I would love to see is the camera being capable of joining a Wi Fi network. I would assume the chips for this would be dirt cheap. Once on a network you could control the camera but just as important you could download data as you go from the camera to any computer (laptop) you designate.

It would need to be set up so it only downloads when not recording and it is smart enough to do some sort of checksum. It would also have to be able to rejoin the network and restart downloading if the camera comes off the network during battery change or out of range. This could "automate" the entire data transfer system.

Most shoots the camera spends most of its time idle not recording. Backup this way would allow another layer of safety and speed up the downloading.
