This last day or so has been full of great news for RED and RED owners.

SCARLET X is less money than the new Canon and shoots 4K RAW.
It's availalbe now.
It's feature rich but doesn't hurt an EPIC investment
It works with a whole system of camera's and can even be a great backup to an EPIC. M or X
All your accessories are great for both cameras.

STAGE 2
You get a FULL FEATURED top of the line RED EPIC for an incredible deal for owning a RED ONE.

STAGE 3, 3.5, 4
To bee seen, but if you get a FULL FEATURED top of the line RED EPIC for 10.5K AND get to hand back your RED ONE, then you solve a couple of problems there.
Even if people are running around with Scarlet's before you get your EPIC, you still will end up with a feature rich machine in your hands.

2/3inch 3K LOVERS

It's sad to see three years of development go, but it means that RED is streamlining their business to serve customers better. COuld yo uahve imagined them trying to run TWO different camera bodies, sensors, lenses, sets of accessories, etc to make a camera with an "inbetween resolution" and a smaller sensor? I think that not releasing 2/3 is a smart move for RED as a company as it allows them to focus everything on a very tight product line up that is integrated.

EPIC M
You got to have the first of the TOP of the line full featured RED EPIC camera's.
You had a compettive advantage in teh marketplace for many months.
You still own the highest quality Digital Cinema Camera on earth.

I don't know if there is another manufacturer who would give you this kind of deal on hardware.
Interesting times for sure.
Seems like everybody wins.

+1.

For sure David. Definitely agree.

What I was (gently, I hope) bitching about in the "I bought an Epic M and now I'm pissed" thread is kind of specific to late serial stage 2ers. . . and just that I think for those of us in that boat, it might have been better to go with stage 3, kept the extra 8k in our pocket and put it towards a scarlet body, instead of keeping the Red One body.

Here's the post I made over there:

"Ok, I'm really reticent to join the fray, and complain. Don't kick the gift horse....

So first off: I love our Red one, I love our newly minted epec x, and I am sure I am going to love the Scarlet we bought last night.

I love that Red gave us almost 10k off purchasing their new camera for no good frickin reason other than that they are an amazing company....

However, as a late model (4000's) Red One owner, I kind of wish we had gone stage 3 and not stage 2. Because right now I am not worried about Scarlet making our Epic look bad, I am worried about Scarlet making our Red One look bad.

Who would haveknown that the Epic x production schedule and Epic M release would combine to mean: a) Epics have been out there making money at a premiumfor a full first season before we would get our hands on one and b) that stage 3 would be somuch faster than stage 2 in getting filled (an assumption at this point, but it looks that way right now with the way they havwramped up production)....

Hindsight seems to suggest the smart paths were a) Epic M or b) Stage 3.
But hey, we all know that hindsight is 20/20 (and 5k @300fps!)...."

The one main thing the One still holds over the scarlet is 2k @ 120fps, and a lot of our clients rent the Red specifically BECAUSE of that feature. So I don't think that its dead dead yet.

So, for me personally, do we have a lot to be happy about today? Yes. Absolutely. Am I disappointed with how Red handled the upgrades etc.? No. Not at all. Do I kind of wish I had a time machine and could go back and change our mind? A little bit, I guess. . .

Anyway. . . Don't want to derail your thread too much.

The emphasis today should be on what a kick ass camera 10k can buy.

Andreas.

I wasn't replying to your other thread.

I think a lot of people had expectations. I think that RED really made a perfect move on Nov 3rd.
