Since it was mentioned on the RED 101 DVD, I've been checking into the CineForm software, but I'm not sure what the advantages of having it in my Windows7 Professional PC system are.

What can Neo ($299) do that RedCineX and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 can't ? I thought RedCineX was supposed to do all that, and then CS5 takes over so you can edit.

When you're done editing your project, is what CineForm does to the data acceptable for use in television documentaries ?

The CineForm Neo 3D "Professional" is financially ridiculous ($999.oo).

Thanks.

not sure about the info on the 101 dvd, but cineform is a really high quality codec you can use for intermediate editing, master quality delivery or finishing. cineform 444 is considered a mastering or SR quality codec, where a lot of professionals consider it visually lossless to the point they can't tell the difference between it and uncompressed. The info might be a bit dated using cineform to convert r3d, but for windows there is no pro res. Only optoins are dnxhd and cineform for very high quality compressed codecs. and Cineform is several times more efficient than dnxhd and pro res combined. It's a paid for codec which is why not everybody is using it. the rule of free always stands. and since no software is able to write in r3d, you'll need a mastering quality codec to output your final project in. If you don't have the hard drive space for dpx or uncompressed quicktimes, a lot of people use cineform on windows.

hope that helps.

and yes, it does meet broadcast standards and beyond.
