  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why two versions of I/O Module?

with a studio module you would get rid of a million cables you need to make a red studio like.
downconverter, d-tap shit cables, bnc shit cables and a million others. really hope for an studio epic config. with the announced proxy module, an offline module and a studio module.
this would make me and i guess a lot others damn happy.

sell these three modules as a RED bundle :)

Thanks Stuart!

gives me a true non drifting timecode lock (like a Lockit box) and 4 three pin lemo standard 12v power outs for the Preston, Cinetape and Transmitter.

Lockit's do drift over the course of a day as well as other audio devices which is why it's always recommended to rejam at least half way through the day.

We also come across bad TC devices (slates, recorders, sync boxes) everytime someone blames us for TC sync issues and we test all the hardware involved.

Are you sure that we didn't we cover this before?

Base I/O includes -
Genlock Input
Two HD-SDI outputs
Viewfinder / LCD output
Timecode Input / Output
GPIO c/w Aux power
Two mini-XLR Audio inputs
Aux / 232 port

PRO I/O includes -
Genlock input
Two 3G HD-SDI outputs
Viewfinder / LCD output
Timecode Input / output
GPIO c/w Aux power output
Additional Aux Power output
Two full size XLR Audio inputs
Audio Monitor output - full size XLR
AES / EBU Digital Audio input
48KHz Word Clock Output
Aux / 232 port

Thanks Stuart, for those of us who often do record to the camera, does the AES / EBU Digital Audio input accomodate 4 channels?

So the base I/O dies not have the same mini XLR audio monitor output the Red One has? What about a straight up headphone jack? Is the Pro the only way to get an audio monitor loop?

Yes, the AES / EBU input supports four channels...

There is a headphone output on every camera brain...

What is the difference in size and weight?

Stuart,

If I want to use an external source to control timelapse with the R1, today, I can use the GPIO on the back. Will I need to use one of the I/O modules to accomplish the same thing with EPIC or can it be done with just the brain?

The scenario I am thinking of is when using a MOCO dolly in a move-shoot-move mode.

You will be able to do that from the brain - EPIC or Scarlet - directly Stacey.
