  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why no 120fps at 2k?

So 2k120@ 18:1 won't fly, not that you want to compress like so. In theory...,

I don't think so; while it'd be easier to pass that data through the camera to the card (since 120/2k at 18:1 would be much less data per frame than 120/1k at 8:1), it'd be much harder for the camera to compress 120 frames by a ratio of 18:1 regardless of the res (assuming that r3d compression doesn't just throw away data in the same way that line skipping does.)

Plus it'd look like crap... probably as bad as 1k.

I would love 120fps but don't expect it. From just a throughput standpoint it looks like Scarlet should at least be able to write 2k 120fps @ 8:1 to the cards (but I don't know anything really).

Honestly the sensor crop is the biggest issue for me. That in and of itself is reason to go EPIC - bigger sensor at 5k and no crop up to 120fps at 4k.

It can to 30p @ full 4k.

You're right. I stand corrected. I had that figure stuck in my head.

The only time I would use 18:1 compression is if I was in a 127 hours senario and had to fit as much of my last life stuggles onto as little as media as possible.

hahaha quote of the day!
