  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why is it so grainy?

I was on a shoot a while back and looking at the footage from my entire 20 minute short film, I believe all or most of the footage in the council chambers is very grainy compared to everything else.

It was lit properly and exposed properly. It might show up a tad darker than I hoped, but even without cranking any settings there is a hell of a lot of noise in the darks.
Shooting other scenes, even much darker locations, there isnt any noticeable noise, or not as much as this.

*I can share the R3D file, but how do I do that?

Hard to tell without seeing R3D examples, but the most common reason for noise, is underexposure and/or bad post choices...

You share the r3d snaps either by hosting them on an ftp server or by mailing them to me:

Was it under tungsten, because that doesn't help. Often times your image can look "exposed" on the preview monitor (and histogram), but then when it's blown up you see just who week the blue channel is (which then gets grained up as you try to white balance the image.)

Like Gunleik said, without seeing it (even a 2k jpg is better than nothing) it's hard for reduser to really help you... 9 times out of 10 it's user error, especially if you're saying it only happened in one location and performed adequately the rest of the time.

So here is two TIFF developments of the file...

http://www.gunleik.com/noise_tif.zip

One with redlog 320iso/3200kelvin/redlog

second with 5600k/redlogfilm/320 ISO

I would def have started from the 5600k in this case.

Adjusting the whiteballance in Resolve or color or whatever is def a more noisefree route in this instance...

Especially as you need to key...

But that's just my 2c.

I'll put up some jpg's in a minute...
