Just was wondering what motivates the people on REDuser.net who are or will be shooting Indie features.

What motivates a bird to fly or a fish to swim? The answer for me is the same, it's what I was designed to do: make stories. Because I have not yet been able to prove I deserve budgets, I do indie until someone sees the potential.

Nice answer Shawn

I make indies because of the freedom

I rather be broke and happy than rich and constrained, but I would be happier if I was rich & in control.... wtf

I'd actually be interested to see how many red owners here are even shooting indie films, Features or shorts. From what I've seen it's mostly field tests or work for clients. I know that there are at least a couple indie features in production at least but it's unlikely someone like me will ever get to see them.

I do mostly commercial work...
To be able to do other stuff :)

Doing a lot of workflow tests because I think it is neccesary. Fun, too... But I need to know when and where things go bad with the cam on set and in post. And of course where it holds.

Like any tool, RED is only good if you use it within its limits. (NOT to say RED is limiting...)

No one really wants to do indie. That's just what we tell ourselves, but then we get a chance to write or shoot or direct MIB 5 for a big payday. Then we tell ourselves, "I'll take the money, but I'll make a good film"........
