Hi !
Sorry ,if question is stupid.
But i cant understand what exactly do Crimson? Why we need it?

EDL = Edit Decission List

Let's say you do an edit off the cam proxies in FinalCut (Come to think of it, that is currently the ONLY place you could do that...) and you want to get that edit online for colorcorrection, you can either export an edl from FCP and conform/online in Scratch, but you'll need some capital for that... OR you could take all the clips you've chosen to use and take the whole clips and onelight them in RedAlert, RedCine and manually allign them with your FCP edits - and you'll have a whole bunch of technical and other problems, OR you could use crimson to create a pull-list for RedLine or REDCine and onelight just what you need, before onlining in the program of your choice.

THAT is why you need Crimson sorta 6 months ago...

What is EDL? (?)

I think the first question for this thread should be what is your deliverable? If you don't see the point of redcine you have no need for high end finishing, and if you don't know an edl, i'm guessing you have never had to finish??

What r u planning, we are all happy to help!!

I'm probably spoiled due to Ian's handywork, but I will readily admit that at this point I can't see using RED without Crimson. If you want instant access to the offline edit while still maintaining full quality from your RAW digital negatives and the ability to one-light your files in REDCINE *after* the material has been cut so you know how the shots will play, you have no other choice. To be honest, I don't know how anyone uses RED without it.

Thanks mumu! Yes,i never had to finish. I am new in video production and now -learning things.I will work reklams,music videos,Films.So, i will need hi-end output.
What if i just render R3d from RedAlert to ProRes HQ and then will work on it?
Will be the difference in quality(if i do it via Crimson)?

I really think every Red owner that uses FCP should own a copy of Crimson, it's the cornerstone of my workflow

If I'm not mistaken apple's prores 422 codec goes 2K and nothing higher. That would mean that the quality loss is about what you see when you compare 2K footage to 4K, although with prores you also get (very-very few) compression artifacts, because it's a lossy compression method.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, am new to this part two. :sorcerer:

I just found another way to use crimson to avoid redcine since it still likes to crash when you mix formats. I have crimson generate the cowboy intermediates then I open the intermediates in redalert, color correct, then search my folder for modified today and render through redline which never crashes. Mahalo ian. You are a life saver. There are quite a few ways I use crimson and agree it is a must have in the red workflow.

Another nice thing about Crimson is the price. I think you can't beat it for what it does for you. Others may try, but I'd bet whatever Ian comes up with will generally be the best from here on out.
