Why doesn't Quicktime play perfectly on my computer?
I am referring to the trailers on www.apple.com/trailers
they play better on a mac than a pc.

Computer specs:
Windows Xp Pro 32 bit (so obviously its not using all my ram)
CPU: 3.4 GHz Prescott (dual core)
RAM: 4 GHz DDR2 667 (computer only using 3 GHz)
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Live 24 Bit
Video Card: Nvidia 7950GT 512 MB

oviously my computer is really fast and plays every game and stuff.

It seems like the trailers are playing at like 25 fps not 30 fps....

does anyone else experience what i am talking about?

Dont get me wrong it plays good just not as good. it might have to do with H.264

Dont reply with how pc's suck... pc's have always win when people do speed tests in like 3d aps or photoshop or anything.

Hi Collins,

your PC sounds like a very capable system in general.
Quicktime is not the cleanest of all apps for a PC, and there are reasons advanced users might find to not use Quicktime at all.
What can be said, is that QT sometimes plays better the first time, but usually plays better with the file played back once before.
Dunno what the player does, maybe some kind of buffering.
Apart from that, this sounds more like a question in better hands at a general PC/Windows or video forum. And there can be various reasons, like drivers, memory allocation and what not. Google "quicktime playback problems xp" and you will find a lot of places to look at that might be more satisfying than here.
Cheers and good luck.

4 GHz ram? I assume you mean 4 GB. It sounds like something is seriously wrong with your computer. Did you built it yourself by any chance? Did you install a lot of software that's running in the background?

You might want to run task manager while you're playing to check how the cpu is being used. Also make sure you have a proper graphics drivers and acceleration for tha tis turned up to the max.

What are the problem that you're seeing exactly that makes you say it's not playing good? The thing you didn't mention is what monitor you're using, that can have a big impact as well (including the cable between the computer & display).

On another note, this is the help forum for the RED ONE camera we make, not general computer help...

as i worked too much and from my observations QT is much better on Mac's
it was designed for mac originally :ninja:

While Quicktime is, in its own rights, a real mess; the likely difference in performance is the underlying codec and the platform that it is written for. A simple test would be to observe the behavior of a Quicktime series of uncompressed frames on both platforms. This is assuming similar quantity of RAM, the same video card and a similar number of cores operating at the same clock speed. Then, any difference in performance could be isolated in terms of the contribution of the platform.
