  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why does this red look so small???

Actually, that's the new RDS function, the "relative dimensional stabilizer", which allows us to shrink objects to any size we want.

You can see how the field extends, with the people nearer the RED ONE with RDS appearing smaller than those nearer to the camera taking the picture. Powerful stuff this RDS.

Nice one graeme.... but don't we have other pressing issues- like Graeme's Magic 1080p HDMI Out? :)

That was at Sundance. The camera on the right was mine, and the one on the left was Thor's. And yes they are the same size, give or take...

Graeme, I thought RDS was only going to be enabled in build 16?

RED's development speed never ceases to amaze!

Is RDS still in beta- is it safe to install?

Beware! Install at your own risk. Some objects shrunk with RDS may be irreversible - get that thing too close to your pants area and not even those wonder-medicines advertised in your inbox will get things back in order.

There's a reason Graeme has Jarred test all the really edgy functions...

Good advice, you really don't want that to happen. If things get really messed up there, you unfortunatly may have no option with your post workflow than to use Final Cut Pro.

I don't think so... Really? You're not kidding right? What are the uses? Is that virtual shrinking i.e an effect done in-camera or is that really real? Or is it applied in REDCINE? Judging by what NoahK said, I'm guessing REDCINE.

Are these official words..:)

Im pretty sure its the massive tripod head that is making the red look smaller :)

An fan of British TV will tell you it's the Relative Dimensional Stabilizer that allow's Doctor Who's TARDIS to appear any size it needs to be to fit into different dimensions.

So is the bug fixed so that RED won't freeze on the blue police phone box option?

I prefer the old Dr. to the new one. I like my bad acting really bad. That is why MST 3000 was the best show ever.
