  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why do people say Macs are good for video and photo editing?

The only Mac capable of rendering videos is Mac Pro, which starts at $3,000. With that price I could get a PC with i7-990X and AMD Radeon HD 6990, 6GB RAM, PSU, case and motherboard and this configuration would outperform Mac Pro with 8 cores. iMac can't render 4K video clip in REDCINE without lag and Apple laptops are laptops. So why?

Note:
I know about the 3D technology and I'll wait for at least Ivy Bridge EE

Thanks

You can build a beast of a PC but that still won't help you run FCPX. If you don't care about FCPX the Mac runs most other apps just as well as any PC. And I don't know of any non Red Rocket configuration that runs Redcine full debayer realtime. But it comes down to what you're comfortable with in terms of OS and app support. Otherwise Mac and PC are basically comparable both with PC components.

Not much difference today whether you go Mac or PC. But in the early 90's Apple had a lot going for it with graphics, codecs, and firewire, which made it an ideal system for video editing. As for Photo editing, Photoshop began on the Mac and Windows finally saw the first version at 2.5. BTW, I learned on Version 1!!!

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you mean, but this just isn't true. Everything from a Mac mini through MacBook Pro and iMac will do just fine editing video, including 4K in RCX.

Don't feed the troll, guys. First post and I've got my twitchy finger on the ban trigger. Never mind that "Linda's" PC specs are just frickin' weird and the other statements are most likely not based on actual experience.
