Or maybe I don't -;)

I'm not firing up the laguun heat here, but I'm curious about Scratch and have a hunch I need knowledge about this product and what uses it can have on different scales, but it is really hard to come by specifics.

Actually about as easy as to find RedRAW files for workflow tests -;)

Can someone please enlighten me?

Cheers!

Speak (or mail) to Assimlate people. They are very proactive. It's What I've done the last 2 weeks and you'll get much more infos as what you can see on the net.

I would be happy to know what you think about this product.

See you.

Pat

Hello Gunleik,

I agree with Pat, you need to communicate with Assimilate. I spent a morning with Lucas and SCRATCH back in September and came away convinced that this is the finishing tool for our needs. It is a highly modular platform so attempting to describe its capabilities isn't as easy as one might imagine. I would recommend that you begin an email dialog with Lucas, he will have questions as to what you want to accomplish and will quickly get you up to speed on its specifics.

OK

Thanks.

I was getting a bit restless for lack of answers from Lucas, but I think we're on now.

Looking forward to the ride...

Yup - Lucas has been rather busy of late, but no doubt he'll hook you up with the information & whatever else you need to make an informed decision.

Personally, I LOVE Scratch so far. I've been using it for about a week now, and I have to say it's a real pleasure to work in.

regards,

I would love to setup a scratch based post business, it's the only way I could justify the expense. Not sure if there are any Scratch systems in the Mid Atlantic area. Good thing I'm not too far from NYC if I need OffHollywoods' services.

One does not set up a post business based on a piece of equipment. One sets up a post business based on (1) talent, or a collection of talented individuals, (2) services, which even today require a much more comprehensive array of complimentary devices than just one computer, and (3) a deep and thorough understanding of the field, which means a lot more than being able to convert r3d files.

Not knocking the idea, just providing some thoughts...

Hi mmost

I agree with all your points.
Still, when buying equipment, one hope to do a more more, than less educated choice.

You have spoken warmly about Scratch @ several occations.
What it that are Scratch stronger points?
What applications are Scratch most suited for?

In the US, I guess you can visit a shop and have a look.
In Norway you can't.

I understand that, I thought it went without saying. When I say post business, I would be talking more than just a single seat of scratch.
I was actually thinking more along the lines of what you are doing down in Miami. My goal would be supporting the local independent film community, plus Majors when the come to town to shoot.
One of the issues is finding local talent qualified on Scratch and other systems. I just can't justify the expense to use it only for my own stuff.
Because of VA and MD poor incentive programs, I'm not sure the business model could be supported for Non Govt work. (lots and lots of Govt work in the local post houses).
So, don't worry, I didn't take your points as critisism.

i think scratch is useful in different ways....you can use native redcode raw.
with scratch there is no need for workarounds in grading & finishing.
( convert via redalert/redcine to uncompressed hd, hq quicktime, dpx, etc.---- )
you will win time, and storage space.

but i never had the oppurtunity to use scratch.
maybe a 30 day trial version for (future) reduser would be fine.

but maybe as soon as fcp/ supports redcode, the situation for alot of people will change, guessing apple fixes the problems with color.

i have to be honest, i wish i could afford scratch... but it is still one of the cheaper Finishing Tools..i simply cant afford spending $$$$$ to use it just for myself.
i think i will do the finishing at a posthouse covered with scratch....or take Noahs way...and wait for a fcp/color update.

I should add that it is a very impressive set of software/hardware, so I would certainly recommend sitting in on a demo.

Where does one get pricing info for Scratch?

Hi everyone,

First of all - thanks for all the interest. John's right - things have been a bit... um..... crazy over the past few weeks/months.

I will respond to everyone - just trying to swim to the surface here. :)

Thanks,

Lucas

can you tell a little about the hardware?

Scratch is a software only product. For customer convenience, Assimilate will help you to put together a working system, but Scratch itself is software.

there were some rumours on this board....scratch special modul for redowners or
something like this.....just rumours or a little bit truth?
Gr
or do you have some kind of other plans for us?
