  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why can't Redcine become an Editing program ?

I was just wondering, they are so close to be an actual Editing and conform application.
I am sure a lot of us would gladly pay for a full scaled Redcine edit version...

What will you do, if the material is other, than Red? Are we going to start having camera specific editing software?
 
The RCX team could make a fantastic NLE, no doubt. It is so obvious, why have a color grading app and a NLE? They should be one and the same.

Because the second you need to drop in that crash cam shot from the 5D, or the weiscam hi speed shot, the whole plan falls apart. They would have to make an open NLE, and I'm not sure if that is on the agenda. Now on projects that are 100% RED, no doubt it would be cool. However, for real color correction, you need secondaries and you need motion tracking for power windows and such. I'm not a professional colorist but even I use those features on a regular basis. Keep an eye on Baselight plugins and things like that for CC inside the NLE.

I thought these could be addressed by future firmware and hardware updates to Scarlet and Epic respectively so that we would not need 5D, GoPro, weiscam etc...and streamline the whole process....:devil: well, maybe just allow TIFF sequences and I could live with it as a NLE for some projects...I think it would be a good idea.

This is an excelent idea. Something like RedCine Pro and ''Lightworks''. A simple and functional NLE program for films/commercials where you don't need all the extra menus and submenus for general video use.
 
This is a cool thought. Although, having just waited 17 hours for a 3 minute Epic clip to render out to a 1080p Pro Res clip (Don't yet own a Rocket) with grading, I don't know that I could wait the weeks it would take to render out a 24 minute piece! :)

I think they should make it into a RED editing system, this way we don't have to worry about doing all of the extra work and taking it into another sytem to complete.
They started something that they should finish instead of us waiting for another software company to add red file to their software.

Look what happened when Bill Gates got into the gaming world and we thought that it wouldn't work. The XBox has taken over.
Come on Red ...we need a simple editing system that rocks and has slow motion abilities, take redcine to the next level and we will worry about the other guys later.
