Why are people selling their Scarlet so cheap?

I really don't know what to say. You doubted the $24K figure, so I found Jarred's quote. The price of Epic D will be $24K. The numbers add up. What is so aggressive?

The pricing of Scarlet is based on magic ...hence a brain for sale for 5K becomes in the minds of some, a brain with side module & mount for 5K ......which it isnt.

I bought my brain for 9.5k (I think ?) Nov 2011 so a reduction of around 3K ish is fair value for a used brain/camera. In todays market place.

Camera's are no longer a pathway to easy financial gain, you either use it or loose it be F65, F55, F5, C500, C300, Epic or Scarlet & yes even BMC, look whats happening already to 2.5k BMC's.

The truth of the matter is with camera prices continuing downwards camera ownership has never been so easy. The flip side of this equation is ROE strategies can go out the window unless you have a proven business plan......& many don't. It at this point many expect more magic to happen by buying a camera to leverage more work ....again a lot of the time this doesn't work. Because alot of others are doing the same.

I believe the majority of sales for "Scarlet Brains' is gearing up for Dragon. Basically sell for 5K ish. Then purchase outright Epic Dragon with FULL warranty (once they become available ) for the similar price without the waiting, couriers, getting in the line, blah blah blah. This route also bypasses paying 9.5K for the superceded Epic.

Well - to compare apples to apples, the OP said $5K for brain only and the upgrade pricing and new pricing discussed is for brain only. If you sell Scarlet brain for $5K and buy new Epic Dragon brain for $24K, it's the same cost as the two upgrades to the brain. What's your point? If you already have a Scarlet and want to end up at Epic Dragon, selling Scarlet is one way to do it. Not sayting it's the best way, just a thought as to why the pricing might be what it is.

What I meant with this post was that, it made sense for Scarlet owners not to sell their brain so cheap. If I wanted to buy an Epic X right now (not Dragon) you would be getting a great deal if you find an used Scarlet for 5 -6K. if I was in that position, I would do exactly that, and then hold my brand new Epic X for a year or two until the upgrade price for Dragon goes down in price. Even if the price of Dragon upgrade does not go down in price, you still have an amazing camera, superior to what you started with, and cheaper.

If you are buying a used Scarlet to go all the way to Epic Dragon this does not make sense as Terry mentioned, but that was not my original intention. It is a very specific transaction, buy a used Scarlet > upgrade to Epic X = save $$$

It goes back to Jim's post about looking to yourself for value rather than your camera. If you're the draw card and you happen to own a nice camera, you can easily work gear hire into your fee - and owning one's camera boosts confidence in the mind of the client: you know it intimately and they don't have to source it elsewhere, saving time and hassle.
