  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why are Kona/Decklink HDSDI not connected to the GPU?

With Apple products it is. The output of the Color and Motion come directly from the GPU and are piped to a Kona.

Not all applications do this, though.

Piped directly to - yes, connected directly to, no. The data has to come back off the GPU, then onto the buss, then up to the HD-SDI card. The data may not be in the correct form for the HD-SDI card and need processor interaction to mangle it. Notice how once you send GPU video out your HD-SDI card it all starts to go slow?

And hencewhy on the PC you've got Nvidia cards with direct HD SDI output built in!

Graeme,

Is there a plan for a V-OUT from RED ALERT or REDCINE?

I'd love this feature.

And works well!!

The data may not be in the correct form for the HD-SDI card

so basically its a software developers problem that aren't able to develop a proper code and are obliged to use a hardware solution witch is implemented only in Nvidia SDI cards.

No, it's purely a hardware issue! Even if the data does not need to be reformatted it still needs to come back down from the GPU which is slow, and go across the buss to the other card. The only efficient way is for the SDI output to be on the GPU card so the image always flows forwards and never backwards.

So, any idea why the "creative" apple does not support this?

did someone reported how a CC software works under bootcamp and a quaddro?

No reason why shouldn't work (Sanjin did some test with Scratch) but basically since Nvidia Quadro SDI (A simple Quadro without SDI doesn't solve the problem) aren't available for Mac...

is it a problem to install the quadro with sdi in a macpro running under bootcamp, running os you could use another card?

No it should work fine but you loose the possibility to use OSX, so your MacPro will become Windows dependent.

At that point you should consider buying a PC.

haha
but what about crimson/fcp offline and finishing under bootcamp?----apple somtimes really suck

gamma, fcp render engine, nvidia drivers....
maybe in 1 year i will switch to premiere/ae/pc lets wait what happens after the sdk release.

if you install the Quadro SDI in your MacPro you can't run OSX because OSX doesn't have the drivers for it.
if you install the Quadro SDI in your MacPro you MacPro will run Windows only.

thanks,i know that, what i wanted to know is if it will work if you have 2 graphics cards, one for the os, one for win....sorry just curious about crossplatform things...

I don't think that could work... but i could be wrong!

It will definitely be a tight squeeze in that mac workstation, nvidia sdi card needs 3 slots, including 1 x pci2, you probably need to leave the adjacent slot free because of power issues - then you need to put in a second graphic card which may also need pci2 slot, and if you have an AJA board in there as well- not to mention any other peripheral stuff you have probably run out of slots, even if your power supply hasnt melted already.
But it would be cool if it did work!

probably its just stupid to think about....
but it is also stupid that apple doesnt write these damn drivers...how hard can this be?
