  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why and what is this effect

Fantastic, thank you. Brilliant write up. How did you get the effect in the first shot? That's the look I prefer where the light catches it. Is that from a broken pair of glasses?

I am going to the 99 Cent Only to pick up some reading glasses. Was trying to pry diopters out of filters but glasses seem better suited for the task based on your results being better than mine. Will look for +1 diopter. I had the same experience with +1 being better than +2, +4, +10, etc...

Good advice, I have been flirting with this idea for a while but have yet to really implement it right. There's some Chris Cunningham stuff where he does this. Love your stuff, btw.

For this photos i used the same setup:
on right side behind subject- main light as back light
on left side silver reflector
in front of subject A4 white paper

If you are asking about " orange " one I put glasses so they cover bokeh and i angle them so they stretched that bokeh. In lower part you can see that rubber thing for nose

This glasses i used for all these photos
iG1sdO

they are not broken

Thats why i highly recommend you to not do this in post because you have endless possibility to achieve some crazy looks and this is more fun to do
for exemple in that Bruno spot between 0:22 - 0:25 when children are walking street that "sun rays" effect is easy to achieve with glasses , how much time would you wasted if you do this in after effect - masking rendering etc

PS. I completely forgot about one important thing
You will achieve differed look when you will using 50mm f/4 diameter 77mm and 50mm f/4 diameter 58mm or 100mm because glasses will cover more or less lens so image will be completely differed
Keep it in mind

Sincerely,
Stan
