I have been following the recent threads on native support for r3d in Premiere and all the complaints about proxies but I am left scratching my head.
Let me first say that I understand completely why someone would shoot 4k.
It seems like most productions (aside from film-outs and projection on 4K projectors) would not benefit from being 4k. So for most work, why is native 4k important? It seems like it would slow down machines that already have trouble with 1080 and 2k.
What am I missing? Why at this point in time do we need 4k finishing? Certainly not for broadcast, Bluray or web.
