  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Who's received their RPP's?

Paul

How did you get around the lack of 18mm on your jobs (or wider?)

What did you supply them to match the red set or were they happy not to be wide?

cheers

Johnny

My set just came this morning, I did not know Fedex was even open today!

I am planning on shooting Landscapes in my time off this weekend so it is perfect timing. I have a set of Ultra Primes that I am going to do my own little showdown as well.

The Red Case is big for sure, but boy-o-boy do I feel safe with my lenses in there. That extra inch of foam all the way around really cancels out my god-given talent of accidently dropping things for no apparent reason.

Hi Johnny,

We took a 16mm Ultraprime along. We also took a 135mm UP. Not sure they were even taken out of the case though!

It's hard to drop something you can barely pickup lol! That case (and lenses) weighs a lot. I'd prefer an aluminum flightcase ala lemsford, samcine or case designs.

Hi Bob,

The primes are going to be out paying for themselves till next Thursday except for Monday but we'll likely be prepping for the following shoots so it will be hectic. It might be possible next Friday or the weekend.

Give me a call on 07786444333 or send an email to paul@sonicfilms.co.uk early next week and I'll try and arrange something. It's a busy period for us at the moment so I'm hesitant to make any promises :)

On a plus side the lenses performed beautifully on the Nintendo Ad we've just shot. I'm very impressed with the build quality and the overall look and feel of the lenses. The 25 and 35mm are slightly larger than one might like but not overly larger than Cooke S4's. All of the camera crew I spoke too really liked them. I've been prepping the offline and the footage looks great from both the zoom and the primes. I've asked production to let us have a copy of the final commercial and I will upload and post on Reduser. I might be able to post a 4k grab tomorrow but I've got to check first. I've done a few commercials for Nintendo and used S4's, MP's and UP's in the past and these lenses for me are on a par with each of those for this type of shooting environment. How they hold up in other scenarios remains to be seen but I'm very confident to advise clients to go with them instead of the more commonly known primes.

Cheers
Paul

just read this, thanks paul.

frame grabs

Here are some frame grabs shot using the new RPPs in Gloucester, MA last week. As you can see they are very sharp, the bokeh is nice and the falloff is beautiful. I'm really liking these lenses very much. Exported as 2K from Red Alert, brought into iphoto, slightly graded and exported as jpeg. These look amazing when played at 2K on my laptop.
