  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Who makes the Mysterium sensor?

At NAB, a Sony upper level manager at the table behind us was saying that RED is one of their sensor customers.

At NAB there was so much mis-information floating around there about the Red camera. Only believe what was said in the Red booth from people that work for Red. Everything else is total BS.

I am wondering about reaktions on this forum from the fanboys.
For a DLSR it´s a natural question.
EG the Nikon sensor comes from Sony
Canon has its own production line
Asking may not be effective but may be interesting just for fun.
And not everybody who ask, wants to build his own camerea or a Red copy.
So keep cool.

Wondering wondering wondering

So you think Kaisoku produce sensors. wondering wondering wondering

Kelsoku Giken makes an excellent new uncompressed HD recorder. They do some really nice electronics.

They do not fab sensors.

Did you try a search? There are threads ad nauseam on the subject.

*not being curt in tone btw- but you will see what I mean with the search.*

It bothers me every time I see a response like this.

It sounds like those of us who are new to the forum or those who don't visit the forum on a regular basis don't have any right to ask "stupid" questions.

Can those who are in the know or expert in this field be a little tolerant to the rest of us? Besides, if you see a "stupid" or repetitive question, why can't you just ignore it and move on. Why do you have to make a big deal and try to educate us in a condescending way?

I would guess Aptina imaging (Formerly part of Micron Technology)

This reminds me of a question posed to a co-exhibitor of mine at a trade show a number of years back (CES). He was asked a similar, inappropriate question by an attendee, his response was nearly perfect in my opinion. He responded with:

"...if I were to choose to answer your question, what would you do with the information?"

Perfect!

He was probably trying to get laid.

Noah

I really need to make a section with all time great posts.. this is definitely one of them.

Hi AOI Films,

Bad day? It's ok. There was no need for you to be offended. You took it completely the wrong way. What part of... "*not being curt in tone btw- but you will see what I mean with the search.*" did you not understand?:)

I know this man, he is known to a few others here as well... he has worked on dozens of features and he is still one of the nicest people that I have ever met in any industry. The Tone problem is your interpretation... not his message. He is right though, this question has been brought up a lot and there is a lot of history/tangent knowledge that can be gleaned from the search on this particular subject.

I can personally assure you that you are way off base. But, we all misinterpret things on the net, I am guilty as well. Everything is cool, no need to project.

Good luck AIO Films. Hope you have a good weekend.

Andrew

I am wondering more and more about some folks here.
What´s " inappropriate question" the OP ask.
It maybe that for some peolple most in the US already all background question are inappropriate.
As I told before. For DLSR´s a normal questions.
And for a car its a often a normal question who is the producer of the eg Diesel engine.
And for the monitors who makes the Panel.

So calm down.
If red decide thats the producer of the sensor is their secret, thats ok.
But a question from a user about tec background is never "inappropriate "

But I have experiance with inappropriate questions. When I was a jung boy in the Sunday school I ask the techer. if its not wrong that Jesus take away his people from their fams to follow him. i was punished for this " inappropriate question."
Now I live and work in CHina. We have a lot of "inappropriate questions " heere but more and more people dont stop to ask.
I know in the US its go the opposide way.

At least the sensors don't grow where there once was forest – or do they?

Wow, all I can say is that you are WAY off base. Your the one who is making the big deal and evidently has quite the problem about doing a search. I am not a fanboy nor a condescending asshole who ASSUMES others meanings and motivations. There was no need to call me out when you are having a bad day.

Ask whatever questions that you want. I simply thought that since that exact information is unavailable-and does anyone who is being realistic think it would be available to the masses? No. Red is NOT going to tell you AND many have said it is in the design not the contracted manufacturer in any event.

A search is so simple and like my friend Andrew said,"...there is a lot of history/tangent knowledge that can be gleaned from the search on this particular subject." My hope was that the original poster could gather various information on sensor design/fabrication and get the bonus of other background knowledge. Very simple.

"why can't you just ignore it and move on." Great advice AIO Films, you should take it before blowing up on the forum for NO apparent reason other than YOU had a bad day.

"*not being curt in tone btw- but you will see what I mean with the search.* AIO Films, this should have been your glaring clue as to the intent of my post. For those who are reading this and English is not your Native tongue then...The word "curt" in english means-rudely brief : his reply was curt. ie-brusque." So, I was not being "rudely brief".

PeterM, "So calm down. If red decide thats the producer of the sensor is their secret, thats ok.
But a question from a user about tec background is never "inappropriate "--- I never said that asking a question was inappropriate. Not close not hardly. If you are referencing me, then I think something has been lost in translation. I know I would be completely out of luck if this forum was in Chinese.

Enough said, I have some fish to catch before it storms here...

ps- Benz, what the hell is up with your avatar? :-)
