  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Who makes Red's Sensor?

I heard, and I don't think this is true, is that it was based on the imager from the KH 11/12 OpInt Sats by LM.

The sensor was not responsible for the crash of the UFO. It merely recorded the Alien bachelor party that was underway on the craft's bridge at the time of the crash. I heard the 4K footage contains nudity, so don't expect to see it posted anytime soon.

...So the Mysterium sensor is a reverse-engineered hack-job sensor based on alien consumer technology?

Cool. :alien:

Actually it's from an alien retro cell phone type of device.
For kids, naturally. Adults don't need that.

Serious clue:

You are right, the same company that is designing the lenses did design the sensor and is designing the new sensors for RED. They are also designing a few other systems for RED, including new camera systems and playback options. It's not surprising they got the contract since they are RED.

x86box,

why is that interesting to you?
I can only tell you some, who have not been involved :)

See it this way:

There are roughly 200 real CMOS developers world wide. They know each other, more or less. I guess someone knows...

:)

My latest info from insiders at Kodak is that they're making the sensors.

I always knew the same company makes both Lenses and sensors, thats why I steered toward Canon,

So how come the 5D mk II has crappy skew and jello then?? We all know it's RED's magic pixies that do it all...

Does it matter?

I think the funniest part of this thread is that Graeme actually read it and bothered to comment.

Honestly I dont care.
But question of manufactor is always funny. After already two engeneers from different sensor fab told me they make the sensor, I dont believe anything about Sensor.
Anyhow their are alt least 5 copanies in the word which in priciple can provide the sensor.
Although the sensor is one of the most important part of the cam, the other is the signal processing.
For me the really genious part of red is the dataprocessing with nearly lossless compressed REDCODE which, which save bussspace and brings the cam in to a reasonable price area.
Last rumor I hear the sensor comes from the replicator from Enterprice and was designed by Data.
The real reason why we have to wait for Mystic X and Monstro is that the price for Antimatter rice so much during last 6 month, and this increase the costs running the holodeck.

Back to now.
SIMPLE enyoy the RED its delivering now in numbers and nobody have to suffer this f..in waiting time.

NO!

It´s ME! Gunleik was just an assistant of mine...

well..

To be honest, it was kind of a team effort. I chatted up the pixies and fed them anti-jello whisky, while eirik was hard-wireing them to the first cameras.

On some stage we discovered immunity in a certain breed of pixies, and had to start all over, hence the X-cameras. Some newly destilled liquor mixed with a certain 24 yo Spray Cask made the difference.

Jim wasn't particularily pleased, though, so no cali, surf or vegas and sands for us.

But I'm not bitter! The pure knowledge of having contributed is enough of an award to me...

Me. I make RED's sensors. I have a box of Radio Shack parts and a soldering iron passed down by my grandpa. It's a bit finicky, but it seems to do the job ok.

sorry, but: Naaaahhhh

We all know that radioshack does not make contemporary pixies, they're just soooooo 1997...

Yeah, i can prove it was gunleik, he showed me the prototype of the monstro sensor at IBC at the User Meeting, for testing he put the sensor in an iphone. we took a photo with it and it took about 5min to scroll from one end to the other in 1:1 pixel mode...

You may ask, why did he show him and nobody else, it´s because i gave him Final Cut Beta 10 which has native R3D support for Epic on the iphone.

Shut up please, or the truth will leak out in the end. Who wants that, really?

Oups, had to run, my oven is ringing, the new chips are ready :)...
