  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I am working on a feature film in Sweden and am currently importing into an AVID.

This is the workflow we use: which I have used for 3 other 90 minutes TV productions

RED-RUSHES
make a folder with proxies M
create an ALE
change the ALE from 1080 to PAL

AVID
open ALE in BIN and batch import into AVID...

The problem we have had is that certain clips are just not working, most of the clips look fine but about half are white. This only occurs in for certain clips and with no certain order.

What am I doing wrong (the only difference in build 15-16) other projects we used build 15 this one we are using 16

very random... very very random...

sometime 2 clips ok then 3 clips bad then 1 clip good 1 bad etc...

The import seems to work fine if done one by one but not batched even the bad ones

Do you see the same issue when using Compressor?

Michael

i need proxies not stanalone QT hence the _M creation. This problem only occurs when I import say 3 days dailies many clips.... very strange.

If I only import 1 days takes circa 40 clips works fine... really weird

ok great now we know that the problem exists, anyone got a solution ;-)

dumb queston (i'm good at them...)

is there a file number limit to importing into avid? ie - you are getting it to referene to much data at once?

how many files would be in 3 days worth of dailies?

Hard to answer how many files in three days of shooting - how many cameras? how many shots, how fast between takes? How long were the takes?etc. But that being said - there is only a finite amount of memory - so it is worth a try to do these in batches and watch the memory meter in the project window to see if there is a relationship between memory and white frames.

I see lots of strange things from _H proxies, Avid and Compressor... I just went to using _M Again

understtod Michael, but what I dont understand is why I have never come accross this problem before. On our last feature we filmed twice a smuch material but never came across this problem!!

FYI: 42:20:24 was the amount of material I last imported, and still the same problem occured. Is this a memory problem do you think?

We have a new version of the QT redcode codec coming out very very soon. This new version works around some strange QT quirks that were causing this problem occasionally.

are you using the same avid box or have you cahnged systems or gone v3 in avid?

can we get some system info as well.........we seem to have done a massive 360 and ended up back at square one..........dizzy.....

system info

Mac Pro
2 x 3,2 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon
L2 cache/processor 12MB
8GB minne
1,6 Ghz buss
Ati Radeon HD 2600

AVID mc 3.0

Build 16 is being used in the camera... Medium proxies are bing imported (workflow expained above)
