  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Which RED for me?

will red be offering a bayonet mount for the scarlet? for old ANGENIEUX lenses

also how does thew whole "2/3 lens" thing work obviously a 10mm isnt actually a 10mm what is the crop for isnatnce compared to a full frame what is a 10mm c mount lens

A 10mm isn't a 10mm? Is that a philosophical paradigm?! :)

Actually a 10mm IS ALWAYS a 10mm, what changes are sensor sizes, which give different "crops" of the image circle. Keep in mind that lenses for smaller formats often project a smaller image circle.

Example (out of scale):

2/3" crop factor IIRC in relation to S35 (most used cinema standard, Full Frame is stills land as of now) is around 2.5.

Therefore a 10mm on 2/3" and a 25mm on S35 have the same angle of view.

Think of this way:
DOF characteristics are determined by lens focal length (magnification) and are consistent for the same lens focal length regardless of format.
Angle of view varies at the same focal length according to format, Hence crop factor.
You trade off angle of view against DOF characteristics as you move to smaller formats since it takes shorter focal lengths to match AOV.
