If you had a choice of either using the Red 18-50 zoom (35mm) or a Canon S16mm 8mm-64mm PL zoom which would you choose? This is for a music video to be shot in 2K with a Red One.

If you are shooting 2K, I definitely recommend the Canon. If it were 4K, then it is a no brainer. The Canon will be wider in 2K and have a better range. Also is faster at T2.4

why are you shooting 2k?

So we can use the canon... and because it's for TV... and because there is no additional budget for lenses (the red zoom comes with the package, and I own the canon).

In that case use the 18-50 and shoot 4K. 4K won't complicate your workflow any more, and you'll get less noise and shallower DoF.

actually, why are you choosing between either? you don't have to switch mounts, so just use them both! :)

i'd go Red 18-50 shooting 4kHD ...
also shooting 4k you can change the framing later ...
IMO 4kHD ISO 320 output to HD looks better then shooting 2k out to HD ..
and if your lighting is on a slim budget then 4kHD iso 400-500 out to HD IMO still looks better the shooting 2k iso 320 out to HD ...

agreed. 4k looks better. Switch to 2k and use the canon if you need slomo, but otherwise I'd use the 18-50.
