  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Which Matteboxes are you going to use with your canon lenses?

Letus

Letus

What about the Letus Matte Box that comes with the new MCS package? I'm hoping its good quality and sturdy.

O'connor OBox Mattebox for me. You can attach handles directly to the matte box and you have mounting options for 3/8th on top

OBox for me. Love it. Light, strong, mount points, affordable.

Oooo I like the looks of that one. Construction looks nice + 15mm + affordable and light. I might have just found my matte box.

What accessories do you need to connect a matte box? Are any of the mounts required?

They mount in various ways. Some are Clip on the front of the lens, (like the new Red matte box which is a great matte box), Fixed on 15mm Studio or light weight bars or 19mm bars or Swing away on 15mm studio or light weight bars or 19mm bars.

Bars standard seems to depend mostly on where you are and historic standards. 19mm is the newer standard which is our preference but YMMV.

If you can avoid buying a matte box then do so and don't use it as an accesorry to make the camera look the part so to say. Many folk work perfectly well with other systems for filtration and flagging, theres not really a one size fits all, but when you need a matte box its a must have item.

Thanks! What other systems are you talking about? I thought for outdoor daylight shots you'd pretty much always want a matte box.
