  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Yep, that´s my question. I can´t find anything bout that in the specs.
Modern still cams support up to ISO 16000, Red One is somewhere around 400/600 ... am I right?

Will there be support for ISO 1600, or ISO 3200 or something above?

RED ONE Supports ISO ranges from 100 to 2000 ... with native iso (the best picture you can get) at 320-500 ...

a still camera like the 5D MKII supports ISO 25200 as the maximum ISO speed starting from ISO 100 ... but, really I don't know its native ISO... maybe 500 or near that... maybe above a little...

the question would be what is the Native ISO speed for the Mysterium X Sensor on Both Scarlet 2/3" and Scarlet S35..

And remember that just like ISO 2000 on the Red One, ISO 25,600 on the Nikon D3 is not going to make a nice looking picture. They are there to capture images that would otherwise go un-caught, where the quality of that image is sacrificed to just get the picture. For documentaries or photojournalism it would be invaluable but for making beautiful pictures it is irrelevant.

You really don't want to push the Red One past ISO 800 and you don't want to push even the (class leading DSLR) Nikon D3 past ISO 3200 without making some serious quality trade offs. Also keep in mind that the fixed noise of a digital sensor is far more objectionable when in motion than it is for a still image so that Nikon D3's image would probably become objectionable at less than ISO 1600 if it were at 24fps.

That said, I'm hoping for the Mysterium X and Monstro to push that usable ISO 800 up to 1600 and 3200 respectively. This is just a wish list checkbox item that I think might be achievable- especially using the FF35 6K and downsampling to 4K.

And before anyone jumps on me for suggesting that ISO 800 is noise free or some such nonsense, all I'm saying is that with the proper handling of the image, it won't draw objectionable attention to itself. In my experience, the Red One produces the optimum image when exposed at ISO 250 and there is very little trade off at 320 and it is still good at 500... but 800 takes some tender lovin' to get the most out of it.

And to those who say they are getting great images out of the Red at ISO 1600 or 2000... well, as always, your mileage may vary.

Music Videos. Sometimes we´d like to have a single shot to be used just for 2-3 seconds in the clip, but it makes no sense to enlight the whole scene, which would take half an hour at least, when we´ll need the shot only for a few seconds in the clip. In situations like that it could make sense to shoot with higher ISO values.

That seems like a lazy reason, that could apply to anyone using a very short shot.

High ISO on Monstro FF35 would be very valuable and handy, because in many situations, shooters are going to want to stop down to control DOF on such a huge sensor.
