Which is "best" SD card for RED-One? Is WB or a Filter BEST under Tungston lighting?

What is the best SD card to install in the RED-One for recording the camera's settings ? What capacity is required ?

When shooting under Tungston lighting, and since the camera is balanced for daylight, is it better to set the WB for Tungston or put a filter on the lens itself? And, if a filter, which one would give the best color correction ?

Thanks.

I just use a CF card.

Don't use a filter on the lens unless you want a softer image.

Hope that helps.

Ivan.

The SD card doesn't have to be anything special (although I would get a well known branded card from reputable suppliers) because it doesn't have to be particularly fast or do sustained writes and reads. Red supplied a 1GB Kingston SD card with my camera.

If your camera has the MX sensor, I would not worry about using WB set for tungsten - you won't have any problems with noise unless you are seriously underexposing areas which you intend to bring up in grading, or are doing lots of greenscreen/VFX work. If you are using a camera with the original M sensor, I would put 1/2 CTB over lights before putting a filter on the lens.

The SD card will need to be partitioned smaller than a certain size (I set ours to 512MB to be safe) - if you throw a full-partition 2GB SD card in the camera will not be able to use it.

I'm new to Red and shooting MX. Would it make sense to shoot with a 1/2 CTB on the camera under tungsten. At 800 ASA I don't seem to be lacking for exposure.

I'm in the market for a used RED-MX and I'm wondering if anyone has used other CF cards besides RED's brand and how they have fared in comparison? Thanks

Not true. I've been using "Lexar Professional UMDA 8GB 300X Speed" CF cards with my Red for a couple of years. There's never been any problem.

X 3, those are the only cards I use.

AFAIK (which isn't very much) you *can* use pretty much any card - but if it isn't fast enough the camera won't let you use anything that needs the higher data rates. The Lexar mentioned is one of the few cards (?the only card?) that's truly able to support the data rates that all the valid settings may require.

May be worth trying other high-perfomance cards as they come on the market to see if they're fast enough too.

Wow, this topic again? Been discussed in gazillion threads for 2-3 years...

Why would you use media wtih all those limitiations to save what ? $50 or $80? Especially with used RED 16GB cards so RELIABLE and AFFORDABLE online. (used ones keep dropping in price as SSD's ship_

Did I mention RELIABLE? PROVEN on MAJOR features and record twice as long as 8GB cards with NO REDCODE limitations...

Why people try to save money (skimp) on MEDIA blows my mind compared to the cost of reshooting. There are probably a dozen used 16GB cards for sale on here- BUY those
and you will have one less thing to worry about.

EDIT: Just read the ORIGINAL poster... uh oops. you asked for SD card for firmware stuff? Any old SD card will do. its minimal data.

pretty much any card that works will be fine for firmware.

and i would gel the lights before i put anything on the lens.

if it's m-x, you're fine as is.

otherwise, i wouldn't worry too much about it unless you're gonna do some testing on it.
