I'm a little confused and I was hoping someone could help me with this. There are so many options and rail components on the Red website for Scarlet-X configurations, it's hard to know which one will work best for our needs. I want to be sure I make the right choice and not spend money I don't need to.

We already have a fully rigged up Red-One, so there may be some accessories I can transfer over. I don't know.

What I want to do, is set up the Scarlet so it will be tripod mounted with 19mm rods (for large lens support). Occasionally, but rarely, used hand-held too. The camera will have a side handle and an Original EVF (I hope) or a Bomb EVF, that I want mounted also via an ARTICULATING ARM (EVF is NOT to be attached firmly to the side of the camera). The Red 5" monitor will sit on top.

Red sells "cages" and this and that aimed for Scarlet use, but which one will fit our requirements is hard to tell. I don't really want a cage, which seems a little over the top for our needs. Which one of the "bottom plates" will allow rods, etc.? And, is there a way to mount these accessories without surrounding the whole camera?

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I greatly appreciate it. I'd prefer all Red accessories, unless there is something "awfully good" out there 3rd party.

Thanks for any help.

I find 6 "?" offensive. Won't even read what you wrote!

Strange, but I found I could actually look past that violent grammatical slur on my honour.

Unfortunately I can't help, but would be very interested in hearing others thoughts on all areas of support people are planning.

Similar to Liam, I'm not so offended at the '?' Always good to ask questions, so maybe this is 6 times as good?

Personally, I think the 'cage' approach opens up a lot of opportunities, but as you've said that you don't really want that - I'd probably wait until the Scarlet X is in your hands and see what would be working with the accessories you already have for your REDONE (unless you have a job the day after you get it) - you don't want to be doubling up on accessories when there are no-doubt more goodies around the corner... (redmote pro anyone?)

What in the friggin' world is he talking about? "offensive"? If he's talking about the question marks, he has GOT to be kidding. What could possibly be offensive in that?

Some people have really, really thin skins.

I wish people would keep their wise cracks to themselves.

Oh well, life goes on.

I'd really appreciate help, not criticism. Yeeeeeeeeeeeesh!!

I'm thinkin he was just joking around George...

Anyway,

RED One gear, I'm hoping to transfer some of my stuff over to my Stage 3 EPIC so I'm definitely hoping on this http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?66599-cinema-OXIDE-Epic-to-BottomPlate-Adapter-Plate little item to use my base production pack all over again,

The Bomb EVF or even the Original won't work if you want to use the RED Touch but you can go side handle/red mote with the EVF if that is your viewing choice, personally I'm going to use RED Touch just because I think it'd be easier though I'll find out when I actually get to power up my Touch with the camera...

There is a production pack that will let you go with 19mm rods and 15mm rods if you choose, whichever is your choice
http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/dsmc-quick-release-platform-packn
and you'll need the bottom plate to go with that
http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/mounting-plate-epic-2

Personally I'm going with - http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/epic-backpack-m backpack and a http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/dsmc-tactical-ribcage-set-left left side of the cage since i'll be using side handle and bricks until I get the Quad module
The top I'm replacing with the ViewFactor version of the Red top tactical plate

Hope this answers some questions :)

EDIT:

you'll be able to use REDtouch and evf when I/O module gets released/announced(again)

Thank you so much Imran. You're a gentleman and a scholar, and a good person to boot. ;)

That Bottom Plate adapter is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm getting one.

I "must" be able to use the RedTouch Monitor as well as the Original EVF, so there has to be a way. I'm not sure what an IO module is, but I'll have to get one.

The only thing that remains now, is just how to attach the articulating arm for the viewfinder.

I know this isn't *exactly* on target with what you're asking, but taking a look through this thread might be of some help.

That was very helpful. Thanks Scott.

After reviewing those configurations, it looks like I'll also need a Red Cage (?) to mount the side handle, the EVF, and a Top Handle. True or False ?

I mean, how else could you attach those accessories to the camera?

Thanks.

My understanding is that the side handle will mount straight away without any additional accessories. (Based on looking at the package here http://www.red.com/store/scarlet/product/scarlet-x-al-canon-mount-package ) I believe the Top handle will mount without any other accessories as well, however if you want to mount anything else on top I would guess you would need the top plate ( http://www.red.com/store/new-releases/product/dsmc-top-plate )
Because you can definitely mount the Red Pro Touch without any extra stuff either. As for how the EVF fits into the equation, I'm not sure.
