We have been an Avid facility for years but we are also investigating the addition of a FCP system as well. We usually post and master to tape for broadcast in DVC PRO HD and utilize HD-SDI to our decks so we would like that capability with the FCP as well. I was looking at B&H at their turn key systems but I don't know much about MAC's.....can anyone reccommend one of these systems?

We any of these really handle the RED without tons of additions?

Thanks in advance to any replies.

I think you would spend your money better on a better mac with lots of ram
and a top of the line graphics card rather than pay BH for what is essentially
putting in one card and loading software.

If you can wait, wait for the new macs due out anytime after January. Major
Upgrades, not just speed bumps on the way.

A quad 2.66 mac pro with 8gb of ram, 4tb of hard drive, an ati 3870 graphics card will work perfectly (order the ram, hard drives and graphics card from macsales.com). This will run about $3000. If you're wanting to spend more get the upgraded processor, as this will improve your rendering times.

I have the above setup almost to a "T" and it works wonderfully with all things RED.

Where is the best place to order from and is it worth waiting on the new MAC?

Is there a way not to buy a graphics card from Apple? It looks like I have to choose one (the default option) and replace it with something else..?
