I've been doing a bunch of filming outside the last couple of days and even here in (Sunny) London it's been a bit of a struggle to quickly and easily view the Red Monitors. So it might be time to buy an EVF.

Can anyone recommend an EVF ? Is Red the best way to go ? What are people using and liking ?

Many Thanks in Advance......

The SmallHD 502 + Sidefinder looks like a pretty cool alternative solution.

Hi Adrian,

No delay on the Red EVF's, some delay on HDSI ones (really annoying for camerawork!).

You can pick up used EVF's with mounts here on reduser pretty cheaply now (especially the LCOS Bomb EVF's which are really light and small in size). Some Red One EVF's work on Dragon too. Element Technica mount is the best but slightly bulky. They are amazing for handheld work especially.

Am considering selling my Red One EVF but not sure. It's really bulky but it's so tack sharp, I prefer it in many ways over my Bomb EVF.

Even cheaper option is that you can also get a sunshade for the touch 5.0 ; )

Hi Craig

Very Very good point about the delay, I will look into the Red option a bit more.

Thank you for the good advise......

I have the Zacuto Gratical and I think it really is a great EVF. Definitely clearer/sharper than the majority of the EVF's out there. Also I like the fact that the scopes are below the image, not on top of it. Thus I am always keeping an eye (literally) on the waveform. My exposures are more accurate as a result. Lastly, I think it's important to have an EVF that is camera agnostic. All cameras today are disposable. Including RED cameras. Chances are you won't be working with the same one three years from now. However, the support equipment can last a lot longer. Thus I have shifted my investments away from cameras, towards the stuff around them. You might want to consider doing the same.

I've been using the F&V 4.3" monitor EVF. Well built and no distortion on the EVF attachment. The assignable buttons rock as well.

PM'ed you Adrian

I've used the Zacuto Gratical for a month in Hawaii and British Virgin Isle's on an action sports shoot and i absolutely love it!
