Hi,

Can anyone who has already got their Epic answer these questions please?

1. Which accessories are needed to attach a RedRock mattebox to Epic?
Either Red or 3rd party.

Looking at the Red Store, it could be one or more of these, but I have no idea which:
EPIC MODULAR ASSAULT PLATE PACK $400
DSMC UNIVERSAL MOUNT 15mm $200
DSMC TOP MOUNT (ROD COMPATIBLE) $350
DSMC 15mm ADAPTOR (CENTERED) $275

2. What cable is needed to use Red brick batteries with the Epic?

Many thanks,
Antony

Are you sure your RR is 15mm?

If it's 19mm, this is a nice solution we just had for our M

Mounts to anything:

But to get the correct spacing up (for 19 mm) you still need this:

,

If you OTOH HAVE a 15 mm solution, the assault pack + platform pack would still be a good deal, as you can mount the cam to "any" head that way.

Hi Antony
Had the same problem as the Redrock Micro was on 15mm rail swing arm. We had both 15mm and 19mm rods and universal mounts that connected to the platform pack. The prob was that the 15mm spacing on the platform pack was too wide to fit the 15mm spacing for the matte box swing arm...and if you buy the adaptor, it is centred and not offset which means the matte box sits in the wrong position.
The only thing you can do in this case is to buy the red rock micro 19mm swing arm and then it all aligns correctly (and sit everything on 19mm rails).

Hope that helps,

Gunleik,

Thank you for your reply. That battery cable is perfect.

My RR has both 15 and 19mm fittings.
I just thought that 15mm would be lighter.

Hey Anthony,

Bought my Epic recently from scratch and wanted to have all the accessories in place to have some sort of configuration in place so that when I received the package I could fix some limitations that the current package had (either backordered pieces or not yet enabled portions of software):

1) Use the Red Bricks as a power supply b/c of backorder RedVolts (via converter cable)
2) Be able to mount BOTH 19mm studio and 15mm LW matte box and follow focus (via QuickRelease platform + assault pack)
3) Be able to record XLR (Wooden Camera's Abox)
4) Be able to have playback (Teradek Cube)

Something That I didn't realize

5) The LCD/EVF cable that came with my package was less than 6 inches total, which meant that I could essentially have 1 configuration of the LCD. (so I bought a longer one)

Below is a list of 3rd Party and Red accessories that I bought to have a pretty good start to take the package out into the field.

RED: 1 Epic M Package
RED: 1 RED STATION REDMAG 1.8"
RED: 1 RED Power Pack
RED: 1 RED Brick 140Wh
RED: 1 AC Power Adaptor - 150w (EPIC)
RED: 1 2B-to-1B Lemo Power Adaptor Cable
RED: 1 DSMC Top Mount (Rod Compatible)
RED: 1 Sliding Top Handle
RED: 1 Bolt Set
RED: 2 19mm 6'' Steel Rails
RED: 1 Epic Modular Assault Plate Pack
RED: 1 DSMC Quick Release Platform Pack
RED: 1 Red Battery Plate
RED: 1 Battery Belt Clip
RED: 1 EVF/LCD Cable 12''
RED: 1 19mm 18'' Steel Rails Set
RED: 1 Universal Mount
Wooden Camera: 1 Extension Arm
Wooden Camera: 1 Easy Plate
Wooden Camera: 1 Easy Stick
Wooden Camera: 2 1/4 Hot shoe Mount
Wooden Camera: 1 A box (3.5mm to XLR)
Wooden Camera: 4 15mm bushings
Wooden Camera: 1 Universal EVF Mount
Teradek: 1 Teradek Cube 120 with Red Proxy License
Teradek: 1 Teradek Cube 120 18'' Lemo to Lemo Cable
VF: 1 Full Metal Jacket Top Plate
Element Technica: 1 15mm 12'' Steel Rails PAIR
Element Technica: 1 Aluminum Battery Interface - Hard Mount*
Adorama: 1 Think Tank Airport Acceleration® V2.0

Obviously, I will have more on the way, but I would be able to sustain different builds and configurations with the list above.

I really wish someone had done that for me, so I am hoping this will help you or give you guidance. I read up on this board like crazy searching for what people recommended and filled in the current state of the Epic. Obviously things will change within the firmware that'll make things unnecessary in the future.

A lot of what I listed above probably has been solutions, but to be honest, if I hadn't bought everything that I listed above, I would have a major hole in my package.

Attached is a very crappy photo is the configuration I made straight out of the box. I'm sure there are smarter and more experienced people on this board that know better, but I have found this initial configuration to be very good for my purposes.

I hope this helps.

Best,

Andy
