Got about 30k to spend including monitor, macpro and raid, who should I speak to in Toronto?

Try Vistek, Carbon Computing, and DVshop. They're all Apple dealers specializing in video and can help you build a FCP system.

I like The Dv Shop. Very friendly and honest. Best prices on gear in Toronto, imo.

I bought my Apple hw + sw (Mac Pro, displays, FCS 2) from an Apple education outlet - U of T Computer Shop. I'm a student there, so I got the deals. Maybe you can take this route if you don't mind going through a uni/college student/prof.

For my additional stuff (raid setup, capture card, peripherals...), I went the Dv Shop route.

HTH. :)

EDIT: BTW, if you were thinking of going to Computer Systems Centre (official Apple reseller @ Spadina/College), think again.

Due to a Fedex shipping error, they took delivery of my Mac Pro instead of where I bought it from (U of T comp shop). They then held it hostage for about a month even though the U of T shop was aware they had it and dogged them to give it up, and even though I went there myself on multiple occasions demanding that they rightfully release to me my product. Even after a couple of calls from Apple Canada HQ, they refused to rectify the situation.

Apple Canada HQ then sent a suit and we went to CSC unannounced, when he flashed his corporate ID, they instantly co-operated and hand delivered my mac, unopened thankfully, to the right place.

Apparently, that wasn't the first time CSC did such things. IMO, any company that knowingly lets it's employees (in this case, the shipper/receiver) go against policy to the effect that it did, isn't worth your time or money.

re: high end computing for the Mac
Vistek...you're joking
Computer Sytems Centre...Haha
Carbon Computing...the pro shop is alright but do your homework.
DVshop...owner seems nice but what does that mean?
Macdoc...great for low-mid range solutions but wouldn't trust in the high end.

Try Precision Camera......they are a true professional video house.

ClickonMacs are nice folks, but absolutely not into pro video.

Sim Video and Precision Camera are in bed with each other, which I suppose says something, but the quote from the Sim guy says nothing. What someone should say is "I've built X number of pro systems and these guys were great". All the above posts including my original one don't say much. In my case, I built my own from various sources depending on availablity etc. Why not try one built in the U.S. from one of the Red advertisers like "silverado"?
You're welcome.

I got mine at Carbon.... good service.

But don't just automatically go with a MAC and FCP. The MacPro and the MacBook even the new Apple machines lack the horsepower you really need with RED and are difficult to upgrade. Look into a PC based system using Adobe Premiere and After Effects before making a final decision. Way more bang for your buck. I wish I had.

True, Sam.
Adobe's solutions are peaking my interest again since the availability of the codec in those premiere/aftereffects. Keep in mind that the new Red Rocket card might be for the Mac only at the moment.

Here's hoping. Sometimes it seems with the Mac, I spend more time rendering than I do editing.

Id wait for this before spending $1 USD or CAN.

WWDC is 3 weeks away

I don't think Final Cut Studio 3 is going to ship at WWDC. Here are my predictions:

I hope I am wrong.
